Will the DWR be proactive

With the rough winter that Utah is having, I have to wonder if the DWR will be proactive or reactive this spring. Do any of you think that they should cut tags when they set numbers this spring. It would be nice if our public angency would manage the deer and not their bugets this year. I hope that all will push in RAC meetings to cut tags this year and not wait until we are upset with the poor hunt this fall. We need the SFW, MDF and any other groups to push this also, as we know that the DWR will not do anything unless pushed very hard. Just a random thought as I set here in four feet of snow!

That is an interesting thought. I for one don't believe they will change or do anything. What have they really done in the past? But I do think with the hundreds, or even thousands of people that get on the MM forums, we can do something.

Can we micro-manage like Colorado? Can we count the winter kill like Wyoming? I believe that if given a chance the sportsman in our state could really help the situation. But if you have ever been to a RAC meeting, that just doesn't happen. Maybe we should have a season on DWR officials? They gotta be good for something?!

They have done a great job with the elk herd, why not do the same with the deer herd. Other than here on the North Cache, where 400 inch bulls were killed yearly, now you have a hard time even finding a bull. Maybe it's all the cow tags, when you are killing 200-300 cows every year it can't be good for the herd.
