Last year was my first real hunt on private land (drew out on a CWMU) and I would like the chance again. Last year was lame in my book...(saw 25 bucks but they were all 2-3 year olds) so that being said I would like to see if I can purchase another chance at a buck. I am looking to spend somewhere between $1200.00 to $1500.00 dollars on a . I am not looking for a Monster or any hand outs. But I would like a nice looking typical buck.

Any help would be great into locating a landowner that has any tags left...

Thanks

Aaron

Aaron,

This will sound harsh, but the answer is work. I take decent bucks every year. I won a new rifle (big buck contest) five or six years ago. In 2006, my deer scored 187. The buck last fall was a little larger, but didn't score as well.

I've taken 75 mule deer. All have been on public property and only one was on a limited entry tag. Get away from the roads, get away from the people, work hard and don't miss.

You don't have to BUY a chance at a buck.

I second GB22. There are many good bucks in most areas. A little preseason scouting and finding those places that people can not get to be driving right to it. Try it out, and like GB said a little work and you can kill nice bucks every year and don't have to go broke doing it.

I totally agree with both of you. However, I know that this summer and this fall are going to be very busy with several different projects. I cannot get out and do the proper scouting during the summer. So that is why I am asking for a chance at something different...

Hope you all understand.

My budget wouldn't allow me to spend $2000 for a single deer hunt. I would even suggest you can "scout" by talking to hunters, deer biologists, sporting goods sales folks and by using a good topo map.

That won't do it to find a monster, but it works well to find mature bucks....those that are 4 1/2 to 6 1/2 years old. That kind of scouting can be done without lots of time and trips.

I wish you well in your quest.

I wish i could buy a tag!
