Jesse,

CONGRATS on a great buck !

My suggestion would be a semi-sneak form with a right turn. The right turn will show off your buck's strong left horn. I'd also suggest asking your taxidermist to alter the form by raising the forms nose up a little to show off the main beams on your buck as well.

thanks, and btw, i am the taxidermist
haha
my dad taught me how to do it all, and im more proud of my deer when i do it myself

That's a real nice buck you got there. No shortage of main beam or mass on that guy.

I agree with doing them yourself, did a few, nothing as good as would expect from a pro, but they're mine and i didn't really have the money, to do them justice, at the time.

Depends where you plan to hang it but, if mine, i would want to have the buck looking to the right to show that exceptional main beam.

this is the area of the house i plan to put it in, either the middle of the back wall, or my dads suggestion of the left half wall facing the middle of the room

LAST EDITED ON Feb-14-08 AT 00:04AM (MST)[p]I would do a Pedistal mount in a upright with a seiver Right turn so he is looking into the middle of the room, from that left corner, with his right shoulder faceing where you are standing in that room, and the buck would be looking at you.

Edit: also if you do a pedistal, you are not limited to one position for the life of the mount, if you get sick of a head on look, just turn it a little and you have a diferent view.:).

I agree with COBUK about the right turn. I am doing the same with the buck I killed this past season except I am mounting the deer using a offset form. I like the offset because it is a refreshing change from the traditional mounts by showing the whole shoulder on one side. What ever you decide the deer will look great. That's my .02 worth..

I have to disagree with you guys on the right turn. The strong antler should be on the inside. Here is a buck I recently mounted (still drying in this pic). He had a stronger right antler, so we turned him right to show off the big fork. If you turn your buck to the left, you will see the big back fork on the left antler much better.

I personally don't like the sneak mounts but that is just my opinion. I like the up right to the left or right and with that I think you have to take into consideration the room the mount is going in as well as the head it's self. What I mean by that is where ever you are going to hang it I like the animal looking at you as you enter the room and I like the side with the most character showing as you enter the room. As an example I took a buck this year with a couple kickers on one side so I had the Taxidermist turn the deer so when you enter the room the deer is looking at you with the kickers on the same side.

That is just my $.02 cents worth, if it makes sense.

Your buck is a very nice animal and will look good no matter how you mount it.

I would help you out but i am still trying to decide on how to mount my 07 buck too. I have got the semi sneaks, the up rights and the full sneak so i am in a delema also. but if it was me with the way you have got those others mounted i would agree with the pedistal mount.

so in regards to a pedastle mount, would you put him just on top of a plain rock, or have some native grass and bushes to the side or behind him??

I am going to mount my 06 buck on a pedistal, I am going to use a ceader pole, and put him on that, but if you want to put habitat that could be cool as well. I wouldnt just do a plain rock though.

Sometimes just a ceader with some character looks really good.

Yep, something like that would look awsome, that is alot like what I am going to be doing with my buck, but I am going to have his head turned a little more, like it is looking at the camra. That is an awsome Mounts though. Your buck would look sweet on that mount with his big sweeping mainbeams.
