How Long?

Typically how long after a forest fire would you say Mulies take before making their way back into the burnt area? Of course I'll do my scouting to double check before this season but I'm curious now:)

Thanks,

I don't know about deer but I've seen elk bedded down in the ashs of a forest fire that was still burning. I would think that deer would start using it again shortly after the fire is out. New growth can start coming back rather quickly if the area gets some missture right after the fire.

a burn is a good thing for a habitat. It gets rid of all the crap and allows fresh forrage to come in. A lot of well managed ranches will start controlled burns in the spring and then go back threw and re-seed the area with winter wheat or other kinds of grasses.

400bull knows his stuff. New growth from mature shrubs will appear in 3-4 weeks as new, vigorous sprouts. Those can be pretty tasty to the deer. Plus the rootball will REALLY pump out the nutrients causing the sprouts to grow much more than in a normal year. Makes sense since the root/plant ratio is so high post-fire. Great place to hunt in the fall after a summer fire IMO.
