Preferance Point States

Instead of searching numerous state websites, I thought I would outsource to you guys for some quick information as deadlines are approaching.

I am looking to start building preferance points for Muleys in Colorado, Whyoming, Montana, Nevada and and Idaho.

Here are my quesions are as follows for EACH particular state.

1. Can I apply for preferance points only and use them for any unit or do I need to select a unit to build points in for each state?

2. What is the cost to apply for preferance points, do I need to pay the full license cost for a point or am I reimbursed a portion? How much?

3. Am I only allowed one preference point per year or can I apply for more.

Any other helpful information would be great!

Thanks!

For Nevada you WILL need to purchase a $142 hunting license even if you only plan on a purchasing a bonus point. Bonus point apps. are $10 for each spieces. You can recieve a refund on your licese but no bonus points will be awarded. Any points you build can go towards any unit in the state for that particular animal. And yes you may only gain one point per spieces per year. The great thing about Nevada is they do square your points. Huntnevada.com explains this much better than me.:) Good luck!

That is a pretty broad question, but I'll answer to the best of my ability. First off is every state ins different some have true preference point system some of bonus point system and some have a modified system of one or the other. Understanding each system is key. To simplify a bit in a true preference point system you will pretty much know when you will draw as only people with the most points for a particular unit will get the tags(colorado for example), but in a bonus point system typically anyone has a chance at drawing a tag but your odds of drawing increase with every bonus point. Now as for the states You mentioned Colorado-minimal cost I think $3 but you must give
Them tag amount and then it is refunded
if you dont draw.Deadline is April 1st
Wyoming-like coloado it is a preference point state
Deadlines and cost for points are different
depending on species(deer $40)
Montana-Bonus point system and again
deadline depends on species.$20 to build
points
Nevada-bonus point system will cost $142 to apply
as you must buy a license deadline is
april 14th
Idaho-No point system must buy a license to apply
in drawing (about $150) deadline is dependent
on species
Hope this clears things up a bit.

mlycrzy,

I am not following you on cost.. YOu front the $142 and pay an additional $10 or the $10 is included in the $142 and they refund the difference? But then you mentioned that you will not receive a bonus point if you receive a refund.. How do you build bonus points then? Can you clear this up! Ill have to check out that site you mentioned.

Thanks

Ok, first you have to buy a Nevada license to even apply $142
then you have to pay $10 for each species you want a point for.

so if you are applying for deer and elk TAG's it will cost you $142, plus $10 for deer, and anouther $10 for elk= $162, if you DON'T draw you will recieve a point for each species.

YOU CAN GET A REFUND FOR THE LICENSE COST $142, but you will not get the PP's

now if you are just applying for PP it is $142 plus $10 for each species. so if you apply for PP for all species it actualy lowers the cost of buying the license.
$162 divided buy 2 it is $81 per species...
but if you apply for 6 different species...
$202 divided by 6 is $33 per species.

Arizona is the same way...$150 for a license to be able to apply, but if you apply for several species you get more for your money...

Do the points count for any unit or do you have to specify a unit in each state that was mentioned above?

In the true preference point units can you decide how many of your preference points you want to use when applying for an actual license to keep some preference points built up for future years?
