Monster Buck being chased

Yesterday I was driving on the interstate just past Evanston, WY on the Utah side. Out of nowhere a buck ran across the freeway right in front of us. I couldn't believe that it hadn't shed its antlers yet. I turned around on the next exit and came back. When I got back the buck was making his way up the side hill and came to a fence. We had our video camera so I dug it out of the back and started getting some footage. As I watched the buck I was amazed at the size of him. He had 6 on one side and 5 on the other. It's hard to say how wide he was, but I'm confortable saying that he was over 30". He was about 300 yards away when he came to a fence. As I watched him for a few minutes, I could tell he was visibly tired. He attempted to jump the fence and got stuck on the fence. He struggled for a while before getting loose, all the while I'm filming. After the entire ordeal was over, we drove down the interstate about a mile and saw 4 trucks offside the road with snowmobile trailers. Its possible that these guys had been sledding and spooked this deer, and its also possible that they had been chasing him hoping he would drop his antlers. I'm not sure, but it was a reminder to me that these deer are very fragile right now and hopefully this serves as a reminder to keep our distance while the deer are trying to recover from a hard winter.

I wish I knew how to post footage, because he's a buck I think everyone would enjoy.

murdoc34, your right, these bucks and just deer in general are having to deal with the extreme portion of winter that the last thing they need is to be chased by people. Two nights ago coming home from Farmington two bucks crossed the road in my head lights and both were still carrying antlers. I think around mid March they will start to shed.Any how back to the subject at hand. I sure would hope that all ethical outdoorsman respect deer and elk enough not to chase them in hopes of an antler popping off, but you know it happens.During the next month or so while out shed hunting, it wouldn't be a bad idea to carry a video camera just in case you are to come across some jerks chasing bucks or bulls.

We should all put off any shed hunting until later in the spring. The deer already have a hard enough time with the snow and dont need shed hunters chasing them around. Lets do the responsible thing and stay home.

I have to disagree Mr. Muley Stalker, I love the mountains I am in the mtns. all year trapping, hiking, sleigh riding with the kids. We can share the country with the critters, It all comes down to a little common courtesy towards the animals.

about two weeks ago my dad and i where comeing back from wy and right at the echo exit there was a doe all caught up on the fence so went and cutt her off the fence she just laid there ,tired as hell . dont think she made it.

If You look at my post I said we should wait to do any shed hunting this year due to the bad winter. Shed hunting puts you in the area the animals are wintering and therefore you are putting unneeded stress on the animals. Most other activities are not done on the winter range so I see no problem with going out and having fun with doing what you love if its trapping, sleigh riding or whatever. I just dont think its very responsible to be shed hunting right now and you can disagree if you want.

Holy shnickey batman. Its also possible they were just snowmobiling.

Amen to the reminder!! Winter's been harsh on the wildlife in the state and the neighboring states as well. It seems that we've had multiple instances reported this year. First the Traverse Mountain deal, and now this ordeal. People need to let the animals drop and not chase.

I wish the DWR's would be more proactive and issue tickets or some sort of penalty on "horn" hunters....

Post the video if you can, we'd all like to see it.

You can post the video on photobucket.com just like you would post pictures. It's pretty easy...
