WINTER KILL.....WHY DELAY DRAWING NEXT YEAR

After reading some posts regarding the winter kill taking place this year, some guys with PP totals high enough to draw are considering waiting for things to improve.
Wouldn't the first year follwoing a die off hold the highest percentage of the mature bucks within a unit for at least 4-5 more years assuming winters are normal? By waiting several years whats left of the top end bucks will then be exposed to several more hunting seasons reducing the top end bucks further.

Sure the hunting will be less than what it was but if your going pass on the first year you might as well plan on at least 4 years and hope for normal conditions every year to allow the herd to rebuild quickly.

Just a thought and was curious to what you guys thought.

I think what most guys are thinking is that it is the older age class bucks that took the worst of it. These deer are not only older, but were probably rutting the hardest as well. The younger deer probably had a better chance of surviving. Give those deer a few years and you have your older age class back again. Or maybe they just want to sit a year and see how the harvest is. My 2 cents.

I had thought of that but some seemed genuine. I have a whopping zero CO deer points, but hope to burn 11 elk points this fall.

I do think the antler growth will be reduced due to the poor condition of both the deer and elk coming into this spring.

Unless the winter holds out excessively long, I think the antler growth should be good. All that snow in the high country means good forage in late spring and through the summer.
