WY Deer odds - pref pts averaged or rounded?

Maybe this is in the application booklet, but I didn't see it...

In looking that the WY Deer odds, it *appears* that preference points are averaged across the number of applicants, not rounded. Is that correct?

In other words, if I have 2 pref pts and I apply with 2 other hunters who have 0 pp's, are we applying as if we have 2/3 pp's each, or 0 pp's each?

Thanks!

No, they don't. If you average (pts/hunters) is .51, then you have .51 going into the draw as a group. Look at the statistics for the past couple of years (e.g. deer data - Non Res Region H - Special pricing is a good example) and you will see this breakdown of 2 decimal places. They average, don't round. Makes them very unique since most states round to the nearest point.

I like the fact that they don't round. No one should get points they have not earned.

OK, bite my head off now.

Well, the states that I know of that round, always round DOWN. So, nobody is getting any points they don't have. In other words, in the example where 3 people apply together and between them they have 2 pref pts, the states that round will round DOWN to 0, the next whole number. :(

My hat is off to WY with their no-nonsense, no-rounding policy!

i learned this looking @ huntodds. K for example got down to .2 points where they were guarenteed tags. Thought about hunting K this year with girlfriend and her son on my 2 points but I did 102 instead. If I get REAL lucky, I'll draw this year and use their points to get me a K tag next year. Selfish??? You bet!!
