ok this year is going to be my first attempt at out of state deer hunts.I was wondering where my best chances of being drawn as a NR in the states that are close to Ca. ? I am definately putting in for Nv. but was wondering should i consider another state? I basically want the greatest odds in my favor.
Thanks in advance for any input- Sean

Idaho and New Mexico, you will be on even ground with everyone else as they do not use points in either of these states.

look at NEW MEXICO!
DRAWING DEADLINE IS COMMING IN 3 WEEKS so no hurry!
They do not have a point system so we are all the same at draw time plus you only front 8 bucks up front!!
long drive though!

Look to Wyoming. I know the draw deadline is over but there is generally quite a few leftover licenses for the eastern part of the state. A lot of private land but if you do some checking you can usually find a good place to hunt.

It's always an adventure!!!

Nevada for all species, for sure. Build those points. I'd also suggest Idaho. As stated, you are on even ground with everyone as there is no points system. You must buy a license to apply. Then if you don't draw a controlled hunt, you can always buy a general tag later and at least have a place to hunt. I always keep Idaho as my back up plan if I still need a hunt after the draws.

I would also recommmend Wyoming. I live in Wyoming, but also recommend Colorado. Wyoming and Colrado have areas with leftover licenses or that you can draw first year/every year. And I feel like the quality is a notch above most other non point opportunities.
