Cali,

Points only for me, later of course. I usually pound Wyoming hard, but I got mule deer on my brain and I think Wyoming has better deer days ahead?

Good luck all! Even though I passed this year I love hunting The Cowboy State!

Does everyone realize that if you draw your "2nd" choice, your points will be eliminated? That was not the case in the 07 draw.

I applied for deer and antelope with max points. Still, my odds aren't very good..

LAST EDITED ON Mar-17-08 AT 10:44AM (MST)[p]this was copied straight from wyomings web-site...might want to get your facts in order before you post them it will save alot of confusion and mild panic....

The Preference Point system is designed to award a point for each
unsuccessful draw attempt in a hard-to-draw area for individuals who elect
the PREFERENCE POINT OPTION and remit the additional
Preference Point fees, yet not penalize those who wish to list an easier to
draw area on their second or third choice. If a person draws on the second
or third choice when electing the PREFERENCE POINT OPTION,
a Preference Point will be awarded even though a license is issued. If the
person is successful in drawing his or her first choice, then all Preference
Points are deleted but the preference point fee paid for that year is
refunded. DRAWING A SECOND OR THIRD CHOICE DOES
NOT CAUSE PREFERENCE POINTS TO BE DELETED.
Some suggestions when applying for licenses with the preference
point option: To maintain your Preference Points do not apply for an easy
to draw area on your first choice. If you do and are successful, then all of
your accumulated points will be deleted and the odds of drawing a license
in a hard to draw area will be diminished for the next few years until you
build up Preference Points. For example, a person applying for Antelope
might list area 57 type 1 as a first choice and area 26 type 1 as the second.
Based on past years, drawing odds in area 57 are less than 10 percent for
the Regular Price license and less than 20 percent for the Special. In
contrast, area 26 has been 100 percent on all choices both Regular and
Special. Under the Preference Point system, a person not drawn for area

102 cheapie fee 1 point/Won't draw but will hunt if I do.

98 antelope cheapie fee 1 point/Won't draw but don't feel bad.

Going to 32 to chase bulls anyways this fall.

Good luck guys.

flipped my lil Indian coin (Sacajawea dollar) and she said go chase moose instead.
I already have a elk tag so not going to push my luck or use up all my Mojo.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-17-08 AT 05:02PM (MST)[p]Antelope: 92 special, 92 reduced doe/fawn
Deer: 141,162 regular

Forgot to add: Max points for both species.

Antelope special 112 with max points what the hell was I thinking?I never draw goat tags so expect a check back in July.
Points for elk and deer this year.

>.....guess i'm the only dumb

>special draw

Sorry Oilcan, but you got company in the 'spensive draw. Probably safer than leavin' the money in the bank the way things are going on Wall Street.

Got an elk tag in the cheapie draw, so thought I would use the money for deer and antelope special draws. 125 for deer and 61 for antelope.

Like you guys, I am not putting a lot of faith in having max points.

Good luck to all. Early July and we will know. Damn, that seems like a long time from now.

Accubond, see if I can help. Wy sets aside 40% of their NR tags in each unit for the Special draw. To enter the Special draw you pay roughly double the price. In theory to get better draw odds. Thats the rules but there are exceptions.

60% NR tags go to the regular draw and USUALLY more than 60% of the apps are regular so your draw odds are better. Once you draw, the tag is the same. You're just paying for better draw odds.

75% percent of the tags in all draws go to max point holders. That means those 75% of the tags go to the person with the most points until they are gone or no one with points is left in the draw. Example, last year in "k" guys with .2 points drew in the max point pool. That means that only one guy out of 5 had a point but it worked for that draw.

Oh by the way, also applied for antelope, regular, 0 points, 42 and 30. 2 does/fawn tag option for the girlfriend and her son.

Really need that one to come through to get them started.

Deer and Moose points Maybe Sheep point's I am hoping they will do something with the wolves in the next few year's and the tag numbers then I will try and draw.

JB any word how the winter was for those animals in that area? I didnt put in for up there but thats the area I wouldve.

I applied for my friend and I in south central WY for Lopes. With no points this year, only a long shot on drawing a tag. If so, will go back there and buy an OTC Lope tag.....enough said. Later will buy the points for Deer & Elk.

Brian

Did not apply this year, going to wait for leftover list for antelope. There is always leftovers somewhere .

me: splitting my 2 points w/ a guy in a group app for G; another moose, elk and antelope point - will hunt moose in 2009 (10 points)

son #1: elk tag in hand; applied for G w/ 2 points; buying antelope and moose points

son #2: splitting his 2 points w/ the son of the guy i'm splitting my points with in a group app for G; buying elk, antelope and moose points

i'd like to take up residency in WY, but my wife assures me that i'd miss her. no comment

I'll be applying for deer PP later on in the year. Hope to be able to do my first out of state hunt in 2009 or 2010.

Sure wish I could get a preference point for deer, antelope or elk in Wyoming. Maybe I could draw one of those quality licenses after a few years. Guess I'll just wait and apply in May. Could be my lucky year - you never know.

ICM at least you don't need a guide to hunt the wilderness, and have you seen what a special deer plus PP costs? Did you ever hunt that late season in Idaho we talked about?

I put in for 102 special deer, with G as a second;
Put in for 60 regular antelop with 92 as a second;
Max PP.

Woodruff you scared the crap out of me.
128 special 1st
H 2nd ... kinda hopeing to draw H ,save pts.
Come on 64 lope!

those that think they arnt going to change the 2nd choices and points deal this year may get bit! called the f&g, and after several transfers was told it will be changed, and this year.

reddog and buckshot - I think it's a split from my experience in the 2008 elk draw. Had 2 points going in, did not get first choice tough draw, but had put in for a General tag as my second choice, which last year was a shoe in as a second choice with points. Not so this year. They threw all guys like myself back at the end of the line on our second choices, where last year you would have pulled that tag. I called the F+G and that's what they told me. They did not want to continue to see a relatively good tag going out as a second choice and then also let the guys keep their points. If someone pulled an 2008 General elk tag as a second choice, I'd love to hear about it. It does not work the same as the moose and sheep draw where your points carry you at the top even into your second choice. We'll see what happens with the deer and antelope.

no one pulled a 2nd choice general according to the 08 draw odds out now, thats why i am pretty sure the change will be this year, i myself was hopeing to take advantage of that loop hole for a few years but think it is over with.

REDDOG:

You might want to do some more fact checking. Even some 3rd choices guys drew general in the special elk pool. Go check those results.

I have called F&G twice and talked to the folks in charge of the draw. Same answer both times. No point burn for a 2nd choice draw, and WY will fill all first choices, based on points, before going to the 2nd choices.

Good luck in the draws.

"Hunt when you can - You're gonna' run out of health before you run out of money!"

Bigfin you are correct.Of all the draws i think the Special Elk draw shows the greatist advantage over the regular draw.of course at almost $500 more than the regular tag i can understand why. Some of the Special draw units have VERY good odds compared to the regular.

Didn't put in for anything this year... not even points. I'm saving up my money for a moving truck cuz I'm moving to Wyoming in May. HAHAHAHAHAAAAA.... good bye stinkin' nasty hot ars Phoenix!!!!

Donnie

My two sons (12 and 14) and I each put in for 102 separatley (along with everyone else). Two of us have 2 points and my youngest son only has 1 point. We are building points, but you never know, one of us might get lucky and draw a tag. Went with the regular draw since the reduced price for youth tags only applies in the regular drawing and the odds wern't much better in the special draw.

Good luck with that. I may do that next year depending on how feel I'll do in the draws in other states. I have some ideas for General elk and would like to be able to try them without using points. $1,000.00 for general tag + point is ok if I don't have another great chance of drawing same time hunt.
