Wasatch Late Elk ?

I drew the wasatch late tag and have done a bit of scouting. I figure most of my scouting will happen after the LE muzzy hunt, when I know what didn't get killed. I've seen a handful of bulls, but not the size of bulls I am used to seeing in the area. I know word on the street is that the wasatch is tanking, but I'm usually seeing better bulls. I'm trying to steer clear of strawberry area due to the high concentration of hunters. If I've seen big bulls regularly in years past in the areas I know, do I stick to it knowing things get pushed during the hunts and rut, or do I go scout new areas? I prefer long hikes to hunting off the 4 wheeler. Recommendations or advice?

It's a great tag! But weather plays a huge role. Most bulls won't be in the area you hunt until the couple weeks before the hunt. Be patient now, focus on winter range. Study Google earth. The best scouting you can do with that tag will be the week before the hunt.

I'll tell you who it was . . . it was that D@MN Sasquatch!

Kawboy is spot on, good advice. Don't get too worked up in finding anything in particular until the deer rifle ends. Remember our illustrious DWR lets deer rifle guys shoot at every cow elk that dares poke it's head out, which really sucks for us muzzy elk guys and late season guys unless we get weather and the herds settle down. Muzzleloader guys won't booger the Bulls too much because they've left the cows by that time. Focus your best scouting efforts 3-4 days before it opens. Good luck and don't overlook the oakbrush areas, some Bulls stay high but many will drop lower away from the activity after the rut ends.
