3 years 3 Colorado bulls

I returned home yesterday from a great week of Colorado muzzle loader elk hunting with my dad. The hunting was tough with zero rut activity and very few elk seen. We saw a total of eight elk on our nine day hunt. I was able to get this nice bull on Friday morning making it three bulls in three years for me on this hunt. As always it was great spending time with my dad doing what we both love.

Looks like its time for you to give it up..!! What a great collection of memories you must have... Not to mention a wall full of beautiful animals..!! Wow. Thanks for sharing.

Dang impressive! Consistency is something to be recognized. A lot more skill and hard working going on here than an occasionally "lucky day".

Great looking bulls. I thought a Muzzy tag in CO took at least two points throughout the state. Guess I was wrong.

I was wondering also how he drew a tag three years in a row. But there is a dozen units for NR and a few more for residents that you can draw without any preference points. Also could have landowner tags.

But congratulations on three great bulls. You have it figured out.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-28-15 AT 12:10PM (MST)[p]I would shoot any of them and be dang proud! I suspect hunter is a resident. Quite a few units can be drawn every year by residents with 0 points.

His photos also show you that you don't have to hunt the high country for good elk. He either has a great honey hole or private:)

Thanks everyone for the positive comments. I feel very fortunate to have taken these three bulls. About the only thing I have figured out is that persistence usually pays off. We all know how hard it is to roll out at 4 a.m. after five days of not seeing a single animal. Was starting to wonder if we were gonna make it happen this year. I also had VERY good teachers in my dad and my late grandpa. We are non residents and hunt public land. There are quit a few units you can draw with little or no points. We just picked one and hit it hard everyday

I know this guy, real well and I'm here to tell you he is for real. In fact, I won that muzzle loader he is shooting at an RMEF banquet back in 2001. He has been shooting it every since he traded me out of it. He doesn't need the latest and greatest and dedicates himself more to this than any other man I know. What Ray is really good at is not seeing an elk for five days in a junk unit and keep going like he knows the next bush he shakes, the bull he wants will finally turn up and when the first elk he sees in 100 miles of boot wear is a raghorn he has the ability to pass it up and be okay not getting one. I'm not going to tell you the unit he hunts but it wouldn't matter if I did. These trophies are a direct reflection of the amount of miles he puts in. When I grow up I want to be just like him. Good job buddy. I know you'll have many more.
