Silent On the Wasatch

Anyone heard much bugling on the Wasatch? We just spent the first two days of the ML hunt and maybe heard two bugles. The only elk was saw two spikes and a cow. Just curious as to what anyone else saw or heard. Monday we spent up by Trout Creek, which was a mistake since everyone else with a ML tag was up there, we then spent the next day up by currant creek.

I also wonder how many of the rifle hunters were hunting cows with the antlerless control permits. Wondering if the cows were getting harassed as well and slowed the rut down.

Love to hear any thoughts.

Not sure about trout/currant. But I had around a 340 and a 370 bull this morning screaming and a couple of smaller Bulls. There was not another soul near me. Unfortunately I do not have a bull tag.

I was helping on a refle hunt on the Wasatch and they started talking around Thursday or Friday. Ran into a couple other hunters and none of the three had control permits

they were bugling like crazy up bjorkeman hollow/strawberry river even mid day. seen a 350 bull pushing a herd of cows this morning. definitely not silent in that area

I just got back from the Wasatch muzzy hunt and you are right, there wasn't as much bugling going on as I was expecting. I thought they would be going crazy right now, but they weren't. I think it is because of the really hot temperatures up there right now. The only time I got them to bugle back to me was really early morning right as the sun was coming up. Right around 7:00AM. And then again in the evening right before the sun went down. Around 7:30PM.

With that being said, you can find them if you get into the woods before the sun comes up and try a few locator bugles. We were able to get on 2 bulls opening morning and then I shot my bull the 2nd morning at about 8:00AM.

I heard bugling bulls almost all day long for 4 days during the ML hunt.
I bet we called in 10 bulls to shooting range.
It seems they were very very vocal to me.

I thought the same thing as you @ the beginning
Of the muzzy hunt. We went to where we had been
Scouting all summer long & nothing, not a sound.
So it took us a day to find the elk, but when we did
They were talking all day & we called in over 10bulls
Into shooting range in 5 days. Before my wife harvested
Her 1st bull! We ended up 33 miles in another direction
Before we found elk that weren't over pressured, along
Willow creek ridge towards reservation ridge. We 1st started
West Around currant creek.

If you haven't got a bull yet, let me know & I can point you
Where we got hers Saturday night. We counted over 8 different
Bulls sounding off.

Gooder luck!!!!

Buckmark!!
