I have never applied for a Nevada tag, can you buy a point? I want to start building deer points, but I don't want to be super lucky/unlucky and draw this year as I KNOW I will have a LE Utah elk tag this year. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You will need to register your hunter safety card with NV prior to using the online application system. They get swamped in the last few days and may not be able to get it done, so don't wait.

If you want a point you're gonna have to buy a license which costs $142 plus the app fee. FYI!

Not this time! I have never applied outside of Utah and I was unclear on being able to just get a point. I am fine buying a tag to get the point. I just want to start building points w/o drawing for now. Thanks for the help from those who have offered some.

Pro, If you wanted to start building points for NV. It's not worth doing just for deer. Like has been mentioned. You need to buy $142.00 license to apply and get a point. It is worth it if you put in for sheep, elk, deer, and antelope. It's about 200 dollars a year license and application fees. I would also plan on investing 10-20 years for quality hunts. IMO

I'll put in for everything then. Sweet! Now I'll see which takes longer, a high quality archery deer tag in Nevada or Utah since I'll be getting my first deer point in Utah next year. The race is on.

You guys are giving me a complex thinking I was being a wise acre. :-(

LAST EDITED ON Apr-11-08 AT 05:11PM (MST)[p]Sorry PRO, thought that you of all people would know the system in most of the western states...

It will cost you $142 for a license and just for points it will be $81, $10 per application plus $3 predator fee per app.

Just like everywhere else if you do your unit research you can find a unit that only takes 3 or 4 points to draw deer or antelope...Elk I dont know about because at $1200 for a bull or cow tag I can hunt 2 states for that price ( WY and AZ)..so I'm just building points for elk myself...

I have focused so much just on Utah, and guiding, I neglected applying anywhere else. I was so embarassed I put off until today to publicly ask for help. I'll apply for 3-4 species, but I mainly want a deer tag from Nevada.

Thanks again to all that helped me out!

Bart, all said and done with the $142.00 hunting license and the $114.50 application fees.....covers the whole dang gauntlet of species available to draw.

$256.50 all said and done if ya do points across the board or enter hunt choices....

You are only charge the tag fee if ya draw....mid-June-ish.

I draw my bow buck tag about everyother year....so if ya go for a hunt code...ya just never know...as Nv. squares your points...yeh a little twist on how they do your points..

Nevada is a BONUS point state, not a PREFERENCE point state, so you can draw your first year with no points. If you're putting in for all seven species that you can apply for, you should draw something in a reasonable amount of time, especially if you're using all five of your choices on the hunts that allow five choices and you're not putting in only for tough to draw tags. If you're applying for early rifle, muzzleloader or archery deer you should draw every few years if you make five choices.

The guy who drew the unit 161-164 early rifle bull tag last year drew with 1 or 2 bonus points, out of more than 2,000 applicants! Quite a few of those applicants had 10 or more points.

Griz, 10-20 yrs for quality tags was what I said. No kidding. I have 7 points for most species. Have not draw one tag. Yes, you can draw archery tags easier. As a Non res most likly it will take 10-15 yrs to draw the top 3 hunts for deer and antelope. 10-20 yrs for top elk. 20 plus yrs for sheep if you lucky to ever draw. Sure you may draw earlier. The odds currently don't say this. Good luck.

Thx for the heads up RACK.

Here I am trying to fax in my Hunter Ed Pre-Registration on Tax Day. 5 busy signals a row. Guess I'll be spending all day resending and hoping to get thru. Nothing like waiting until the last minute.

7th time was the charm.

Now, when will it get entered in the system???

LAST EDITED ON Apr-16-08 AT 11:59AM (MST)[p]naw, deadline in NV isn't till the 21st of April at 5pm but it gets awful busy the last couple days so the earlier you put in the better. I have bonus points for deer, elk and antelope as a resident so fingers crossed i get deer this year (usually about every other year for deer as a res) but antelope (every 5 years on average) and elk (every 15 years) are long shots, but i had a buddy draw an elk tag last year with 3 points in 111-115, 221,222 so it can definitely happen. here is hoping.
I can't wait for it to be june, i will be watching my credit card for that tell-tale charge :)
Godsten

ps. you can also put in for a PIW (partners in wildlife) tag for like a $10 charge for deer if you are a non-res. (more animals if you are a res.) it is a long shot but if you get it you can hunt any legal season in any open area with any legal weapon so it is like hitting the NV muley jackpot, if your putting in i figure why not.

I spaced and used my ATM card instead of my credit card, so I called and asked if I could change it and they said no problem, even called me back to confirm my address which was wrong, very accommodating if you ask me?.

You all are wasting your money. Call and get your app pulled to save your money. "THERE ARE NO DEER IN NEVADA" "DO NOT APPLY"

Anyone else reading this save your money apply somewere else. PLEASE

I think the Moderators should delete this post. Telling people to apply to a state with NO DEER. Delete it fast. We don't need more people wasting there money on Nevada apps. You won't draw anyways so save yourself the agony of defete now.

Better yet go to UTAH and hunt. I here there are Pisscutters running all over the place.
