Deer Area 101 in southwest wyoming is in big trouble. The area has not been doing very well in the last few years and just when it looked like the area was going to start coming out of it and start to produce some big deer again and more of them. The area gets hit with a very hard winter and the game and fish are calling for an above normal winter kill. I myself have been out in the area over the past couple of days and it looks horrible. I have seen a grand total of seven deer in two days and close to 50 dead deer. I haven't seen a single yearling deer that has survived and I have found four separate bucks that died during the winter with horns still attached to there head. And two of them were some real up and comers. I really hope the game and fish will close this area to all deer hunting in the future and let the numbers start to come back up. I spoke with a local game warden about what I was seeing and he said that it was a bad year out in that country for deer and antelope. And he also said that if it were him, he wouldn't put in for that area. and after what I saw, I would advise all residents and non-residents to put in for a different area. I have never seen anything like this anywhere in wyoming.
