Which late elk hunts are worth putting in for? Quality bulls with plenty of ground to hunt without worrying about private.

I would look for units where the elk winter on open hillsides, and not on flats.
There are some elk that move out into flat juniper areas, and man are they hard to locate.
Some units that elk winter on large wind swept slopes. These elk are much easier to find.

Bulls start moving to these areas with or without snow.

Well Im not familiar with any of the units. So im screwed.

Muzz, I'm a NR with 18 points and I'm looking at the same question you are, or do you just stay with the early hunts .

More important than what unit do you want, what unit can you draw? how many points do you have? it doesn't matter if you can't draw it.

With rare exception I've found if in doubt drawing the tag that requires the most points you can is your best choice.

As far as actual advice the only elk unit in UT I've hunted was Panguitch and that was the early season. my opinion is that would be a tough late hunt from what I know of the unit.

You are not screwed!
Go look at late hunt success rate, and average age of elk harvested that will help a LOT.
A Unit that I understand are very hard on the late hunt:

-San Juan

A couple of units that elks seem to show up and be visable:
-Pahvant
-Wasatch

THEY ARE HARD HUNTS!
Steep, and bulls like to be alone.

bowhunt knows his elk and he is not kidding when he says THEY ARE HARD HUNTS!

You will see tons of elk but this time of year the bulls make themselves very scarce. If you don't know where to look you will be "screwed".

That being said, if you do your homework and find a place where big bulls hang, you could run into a fine trophy.

There isn't a Better time to scout for next years late hunt than these next two weeks. Every unit has certain places the Bulls like to hide and once you can learn their habits, it's a real advantage. Bad weather can cost you some hunting days because of visibility or heavy wind but can also make some great hunting when the storms lift.

I have a similar interest.
With 14 points, do I look at muzzleloader hunts or late hunts or wait for a while and try for an early hunt??

I would think that another unit to add to your research would be Manti.
