After 12 years of applying for a tag, my wife drew 1 of two non-resident tags allotted for her unit this year. It was an extremely difficult hunt, and seen very few elk. The last 30 minutes of the hunt, she downed this old bruiser. He is broken up horribly, and probly not as much horn as years past. Can't wait to get the tooth data, and see how old he is.

Good feeling right there. Looks like UT treated you guys right.

Congrats to your wife on a good looking elk.

He doesn't look to broken up--nice Ivory tips on him.

I can not remember the last time I brought an elk out WHOLE!! haha

congrats

I would guess he has broken off at least 30" of horn. I would guess he would have been about a 310 or maybe 320 class before he broke off. She shot it the last 20 minutes of shooting light, and 4 of us drug him down to side by side and we drug him about a mile where we could get a pick-up and used the side by side to drag him in it. Ruined the cape, I thought the snow would not rub the hair off. I drew an early tag about 10 years ago, and there is no comparison to the hunts. I would not apply for another late hunt. Very hard hunt! here is a pic showing the broken.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-16-15 AT 11:41AM (MST)[p]Congratulations to you and your wife. Sounds like you hunted hard for that bull. Trophy's aren't always a number at the end of the tape measure! Besides; that looks like a respectable animal to me!
