Has anyone ever hunted with Mick or john chapel in New Mexico? I was recommended by a friend that went with him years ago but wanted to get more feedback?

I hunted elk with Mick many years ago...my first guided hunt. I can't remember which unit( one of the 15's I'm pretty sure). After hunting for a couple of days, the guides in camp happened to mention that all the bigger bulls in the unit had gotten killed the year before. This statement bore itself out as the hunt progressed. A 320 bull was the biggest taken...not that that's a bad bull, but I felt like I had been misled. Many bulls over 350 had been taken the previous year. I never saw a bull over 300. Hunted hard too. Would have been nice to have that info before I applied. I know they kill lots of big bulls and I believe Mick's wife killed the state record bighorn several years ago, so they know how to get it done. I feel like they take too many hunters...at least they did 20 years ago( or so) when I hunted with them. As a side note...My guide told me I was like a marathon runner compared to most hunters that he took. So by no means was my lack of success on a big bull due to lack of effort. I took a cow on the last day.

I hunted with Mick's outfit about 7 or 8 years ago. I had just an OK hunt, was not very impressed with his camp or food. My guide, Johnny, was very good. I've hunted 15A half a dozen times and that was the only guided hunt I've done down there.

I've heard that Mick's operation has gone downhill. Too much focus on volume and not enough on quality, I'm told.

I'm taking a buddy down to that region this coming fall and he will be hunting with G3 Outfitters.
