when to hunt WY unit 32-1

Hello guys, first post here but have been lurking for a long time.
My question for some experienced WY hunters is about when to hunt unit 32? I have been up there 3 times on cow hunts, all in the first or second week of Oct. Seen the most elk closer to the middle of Oct.
Looks like things can really change from the archery opener to the end of rifle in Nov. I live a thousand miles away but can manage to get off work for 2 trips 9 to 10 days each. Can bowhunt and rifle hunt.
So when would you recommend going? I was thinking about the end of Sept and first couple days of rifle for one trip. Then come back if necessary end of Oct to first of Nov. What do you think?

Hi John, I drew unit 31 last year as a non res. I think it all depends on what weapon you want to hunt with. I spent 20 days on the mtn archery hunting and had a blast. Not very many people on the archery hunt than rifle. It was a goal of mine to harvest a 300 inch bull with a bow instead of a 320 bull with a rifle. I would say take a archery trip if you could they were rutting hard from about the 15th of sept. I shot mine on the 26 th and he was in full swing! I think they would still be rutting around the first week of Oct but you will have alot more people to compete with. Good luck and remember there is nothing better than hunting elk when they are screaming !

I have hunted 32 a few times and have had great hunts. If I were to have that hunt again I would hunt the last week of archery and then the first couple days of rifle.

if you can swing two trips...Go for the first 9-10 days of archery then the last week of archery and the first couple days rifle.

I was able to pull a 344 out of 32 and my friend got a 330 class bull. I have seen a few bulls over the 350 mark. Its a great hunt and the archery hunt is awesome. The bulls can move out of the unit pretty fast with pressure (both archery and rifle).

I agree with Utah400, if you can make two trips work then I would hunt early in Sep with your bow then return for the last 4-5 days of archery and finish up with the first few days of the rifle hunt.
