Nv. Buck Tag#

I notice that once again NDOW really shafted the nonresidents for area 7 muzzel loader. 118 res 4 non one of the lowest percentages of all. Guess the guy setting the quota hunts muzzy and thinks a non res will shoot his deer. Or they are just afraid that the non res will actually kill a deer.

Oh, well I still like there system but it sure would be nice to understad the numbers because they just don't add up on this hunt and area. Smells fishy..

Just so you all don't think I am crazy. Don't think we need to go back any further to see the trend.

Yr Res Non Res
2000 131 15
2001 145 16
2002 25 10
2003 41 5
2004 68 8
2005 69 9
2006 118 4
2007 148 5
2008 118 4

Who got hired or fired before the quotas in 2006 What a trend change that continues????

DMCHUNTER! One of my favorite units was cut by 400 tags this year,so don't feel to sorry for yourself!

Got that right Dave!
You and your 32" bucks before 8am on the opener. Sheesh man, this just gives us poor residents a chance. :)

Don't forget to add the guide quota "welfare tags" to your numbers. I think its BS in any state, but they are still all nonresident tags. One of these days the guide quotas and wilderness guide laws need to be challenged, they'd never hold up in any legit court.
I'm not against the guiding industry, just people getting better odds on a public/government resource, simply because they hire a select, private industry.

DMCHUNTER! I feel your pain. It sucks to see the drop in overall tags but I just trust the NDOW knows what they are doing. Good luck in the draw!

Ok were to start.

First off I don't feel sorry for myself. Far from it. I am a numbers guy. Look at the trend. I am the first to say cut the tags when the deer numbers are down. Why the big change in percentage in 06. If you go back you would see the tags pretty much mirrored the deer numbers trends. Then in 06 they changed the percentage but only for the muzzy hunt. Why???

Oakbuck, It was a fluke. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. I will let you guys cut in line once since you helped me out. Thanks again.

Guide welfare steels from the rifle hunts pretty much.

I know how the system works and have already made my adjustments. I will just have to get an archery tag and beat all you residents out anyway. lol

Reads like my favorite bow muley unit (s) stayed the same non-ressy quota...

Elk about the same for bow options.....

Sheep---yeh 1 tag each....

DMCHUNTER.....# of tags for NR muzzy for area 7. NDOW uses a Demand Index to allocate tags for each hunting method(archery, muzzy, rifle) at least they did when I was last involved. Demand Index uses # of applicants for each method vs the total # of applicants to determine % of tags allotted. Bottom line, demand goes down tags go down. If you want a claification of Demand Index contact the biologist in the Elko office.

you guys shouldn't complain about out of stste tags in nv. if you dont like it go to a state where you can actully hunt deer and get a tag wyoming, colo, montana, idaho etc.i've lived in nv. for 26 years and have only been able to draw a tag three times in all those years. even i know that if i want to hunt a deer to go to another state. nvdow is only out for money when i moved here 26 yrs. ago their was 350,000 in the deer herd now they say theit's only 165,000 you guy's do the math are deer herd is being killed off and the nvdow don't care!!!!!!!!!!

LAST EDITED ON May-29-08 AT 01:24PM (MST)[p]You're numbers are way off. I don't think Nevada has ever had anywhere near 350,000 deer. And the estimated spring 2008 population is 108,000 mule deer, not 165,000. You also must only be putting in for the high profile units, if you've only drawn 3 tags in 26 years as a resident. Why do you say "the deer herd is being killed off, and ndow don't care"? I hope you're not implying the herd is being killed off by hunters, when NV probabbly has the highest buck to doe ratio of any western state. I've attached a link to the latest population report for your convienance, but it sounds like you'll probablly say NDOW spins these numbers.

>math are deer herd is

I never believed the stuff in those newsletters from Cecil Fredi.

I've lived here about the same time as you and have only missed 3 draws.

Every State Is Hard To Draw For Non-Resident Not Just Nevada! It Took Me My 7th Try Last Year To Get A Nevada Deer Tag And I Am Resident! 8 Points In Utah,7 In Oregon And So On,So Dont Just Whine About Nevada! Other Wise Site Will Be Full Of Them In A Couple Weeks.3 Or 4 States Draw Anytime Soon. And Hopefully I Am Not One Of Them.Gordon RAM4G

I pointed out a discrepency in tag alocation. I guess that is whinning to some of you. I guess it is normal for areas with half the resident muzzy tags to allow more non residents than an area with way more deer. Just look at the number colum and it will jump out at you as being odd.

I hear more whinning from the residents. If you didn't hunt for that many yrs it is your own fault. There is oppurtunity every yr for residents to hunt. Bow, muzzy, rifle it might not be in the very best unit but it is opurtunity. If you only put in for 1 specific unit or hunt type again that is your choice.

Good luck in your draws. Kill that monster of your dreams.

Sorry If I Hurt your Feelings.I Only Apply In Units With Trophy Potential.I Am Not A Forky Hunter,So I Dont Apply Just To Hunt.So Is My Fault. But I Have Standards! Gordon RAM4G

Are you saying that the best buck you can find is a two point in units 3,5,6,7,13,14,15,17,16,Ely area, etc.? Most units in these areas are not hard to draw. And have trophy bucks, take a look at the NV record book. Get out of the RV before 11AM!

I put in for all the western states & like Nevada's draw system the best even though I haven't drawn. With 10 points I'm hoping for an archey tag this year.Utah 14 points,Arizona 10 points,Oregon 10 points,Colorado 10 points. All of the states are getting tougher for residents & non-residents!

WAIT A MINUTE ALL THE WILD LIFE AGENCYS TELL ME THERE ARE FEWER AND FEWER HUNTERS EVERY YEAR?WHY DO MY ODDS GET WORSE?SOMETIMES I WONDER IF ITS A GOOD IDEA GETTING MY KIDS INVOLVED?IT GETS MORE COMPLICATED AND MORE EXPENSIVE ALL THE TIME.WHERE WILL WE BE IN 20 YEARS WHEN A UNIT 10 COLORADO ELK TAG TAKES 37 POINTS TO DRAW AND COSTS 7312.25$GOLF MIGHT HAVE BEEN A BETTER CHOICE?PLEASE MAKE ME FEEL BETTER, BIGMOE

LAST EDITED ON Jun-02-08 AT 09:13AM (MST)[p]I HATE TO SAY THIS EVERY TIME I APPLY IN WYOMING I GET A TAG REGUARDLESS WHERE I PUT IN FOR. NOW I KNOW THEY JUST WENT TO A DRAW SYSTEM AND THEY HAVE A BIGGER HERD BUT THEY MANAGE THIER DEER MUCH BETTER! AT LEAST FOR THE 26YRS I'VE LIVED IN NEVADA.I AGREE IT WILL NOT BE TO LONG TILL WE PAY SOME OUTRAGEOUS FEE TO HUNT THAT'S WHY I'VE TAKEN UP MOUNTAIN LION HUNTING YOU CAN GET THE TAG OVER THE COUNTER AND YOU CAN GET TWO A YEAR NOW DON'T YOU GUYS GO TELL ANYBODY OR THE NVDOW WILL CHANGE IT!! TALK LATER JIM
