Great picture !! I would not hesitate on that brute - thanks for sharing.

Robert.

I would let him grow up more. Imagine him as a mature four point! Heck of a buck!!!

He's already a mature deer. All bucks don't grow into 4 points as they get older. That deer could possibly die of old age & never be a 4 point!

I once saw two bucks that looked very similar to this buck on the Pausagaunt. Tried to get my dad, who had the tag, to kill one of them but it was the bow hunt and just couldn't ever make it happen. Nice pic, Thanks for posting.

I don't care how many points that buck has, 4x3,3x3,4x5 take your pick, i'd shoot him in a heartbeat. period.!!

I figure that's it's not, but i kinda looks like some Blacktail in that buck.

I would not be able to shoot him... My rifle does not like bucks like that and it always misses them on those few rare times when I havr seen a big buck. It starts shaking and wobbling and of course it shoots someplace where the buck isn't... but it's death on small forkies.. It nails them everytime.

Jim

Too funny, Jim. Get a Harris bi-pod and it will calm that rifle down a bit! The two seem to become buddies rather quickly.

Looks like a great buck. That buck has some very small ears. If those ears had a spread of 22 inches, how wide would that rack be? 40 inches? I think that is why Joey (sageadvice) may see some blacktail in him. What do you think, Joey?

Steve

Yeah Steve, small ears and that compact dark face. sure does look similar to some honker big crossbreds that have been shot in clubs and on private, east of Red Bluff and up toward me. Seen some dandies come out of that country, some over 30". But just look at the mass, even with the velvet, that buck is a PIG!

I would drop him in a heart beat he is at 32+ and is a 4x3 with eye guards. Nice Buck.

The buck was actually killed a few weeks later on the Alton CWMU unit here in southern Utah. It was at the local taxidermist and taped out at a whopping 35" wide and they said it grossed in the 190's.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-02-08 AT 12:50PM (MST)[p]I agree with drnaln, not all deer grow into four points. It's all in the genetics. There has been research done, and if a deer grows into a mature three point one year, there is a seventy something percent chance it will never grow into a four point. Either that, or it will never grow big fourths, they will stay small crab claws. Like I said, it's all in the genetics!
