Here is a couple pictures of my Grandpa's old 300 Savage. It is a little different than any of the other 300's that we have in our family, and I have never seen another with a front end like this one. Are there any experts out there that would know if the band on the front was a custom job, or was this done by the manufacturer? I'm just curious.
Thanks,

My grandpa had one too. I guess he sold it somewhere down the line. Wish we still had it.

Don't recall seeing one with a barrel band like your pic though.

In my family we have three model 99a .243's, and all three of them have a band on them. I do know that there is a model 99c which doesnt have the brass bullet counter on it that our 99a's have and the 99c has a clip which the model 99a doesnt have. I think that there is a third model as well, that might be were the difference is. IF ANY BODY KNOWS WHERE I CAN FIND ANOTHER 99A .243 LET ME KNOW I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR ONE FOR QUITE A WHILE THE OLD MAN IS STINGY WITH HIS GUNS.

lol my bad i thought you were somebody at work now you can laugh your a** off at me

I spoke with my dad tonight about the gun pictured. He said that Grandpa bought it in 1939 for $40. It took him 6 months to pay it off. He took a lot of animals with it including some VERY nice mule deer, and a 340 bull. He had open sights on it up until dad bought him the scope when he got so old he couldn't see through the peep anymore. He shot the big bull at about 350 yards with the open sights in 1972. He was going leave the antlers with the gut pile because they were too far back in a deep basin. Dad went back and got them anyway. Life was a little different back then.
