First elk of the season

Good job!

Our archery cow hunts open August 1St. I have a muzzle loader cow tag for a hunt that opened yesterday and ends the last day of the month. I will be done with big game before school starts!

They started doing the earlier hunts for doe antelope as well. I drew a doe antelope tag this year and harvested my doe on opening day (Aug. 1). I would think there are a few reasons to have the hunt early - lessen the stress on herds that the later hunts put on (i.e. people chasing elk down on snowmobiles, rounding them up with trucks and surrounding a herd, etc.), and not forcing animals off their winter range by hunting them well into the winter.

Congrats on the cow elk, looks like a great family outing!

Congratulation ! That's a great time !!! Where you camping up there ? Some friends heard a shot and called the Fish and game. Later they found some elk legs in a camp. If so, that would be great news. They thought someone took a bull they were watching. They couldn't find him after that. They where around Gates Lake area.

Nice elk. Great pic. Congrats.

That"s some beautiful country up there! Did you see me driving around in a orange razor ? Oh maybe you are talking about the ranger station at the bottom of the hill ? Not the ranger station across from MT Terrell ? There are two ranger station on that road. If it was at the bottom, I wasn't down that low.
