LAST EDITED ON Aug-22-16 AT 09:54PM (MST)[p]I came across this carcass when out hunting this morning. I've called it in to the DWR so they can meet me, and hopefully I can eventually take possession of the rack.

There was both halves of an arrow laying amid the bones. Pretty nasty country where I found it, so I understand how difficult it would be to blood trail in this stuff. Still, I'm sure the unlucky hunter has visions of the one that got away. Always sorry to see that not every animal is recovered, but we must all except it happens at least on occasion.

I am posting this just so others can see the quality of bull running around (at least last year) on a public land limited entry unit in Utah. I haven't put a tape on it, but believe it will score very well.

That is a stud bull! Unfortunately you probably just donated it. With an arrow there, chances are slim to none that you will get to keep it. It needs to be natural causes.

Yep, they wont let you keep it, you should have removed the arrow lol, then you would have had a chance.

Where did you find it? My brother arrowed a nice bull that looked just like that on the Manti a couple years ago. We tracked it for days, but never found it. Just curious. PM me if you feel more comfortable and let me know if you got it or the DWR. Thanks!

Let us know how this story goes please! the DWR should look into it for sure, but if no leads on to what happened (poached or legal) then why don't they let you have it? hell its obviously been there for awhile! just my 2 cents!!

This bull was found on the Monroe unit. A full week now and no contact from the DWR. I'm sure they have better things to do, but it is certainly tempting to go back and pick this up myself. I told them I would be in the area through this weekend and would gladly meet an officer, so I am sure they will call now that I am back in town. :(

I'm sure it will take some time for this to play out, but I will eventually post another update.

So.....If you got called because your number was on the arrow....could you go there.... Put a two year old tag on it.....and haul it home?

Hey Homer!

More than Likely They'd Let Him Have it with some kinda Proof!

One Thing that is Important in TARDville!

If You Shoot & Lose an Animal!

Turn the Story/Location/Description of the Rack in to the DWR!

It only Happens on Rare Occasion but I have seen the the Shooter recover the Rack at a later time as long as He/She didn't Keep Hunting & Tag another Animal!

You Mean a 'Wound' registration?

I Don't Think so!

If there was,They'd be Busy!

You're a funny man, DW.
I'm sure we lose our share but probably no more than other places.
People are no different here or there just because there's an imaginary State line drawn on a map.

What a great idea!! I'm going to do that tonight before leaving for camp tomorrow.

My question is without a kill registration, how do they know if said person kept hunting and tagged another animal

Great idea never thought of doing that. I agree it will maybe help you down the road.

There have been cases in the past where poachers shoot a huge buck or bull one year left it and came back the next year with a Dwr officer and said they found it.

Only took a couple convictions and now Utah only gives dead head permits for animals dying from natural causes.

Any heads found that are not natural deaths are auctioned off for money to use towards conservation.
