Wyoming Deer & Antelope

Got a deer tag in area F and Antelope in 081-2. Been in Arizona for 26 years now and have 15 points for Antelope but I have to go to Wyoming to get one. Got 13 for Elk, is there something wrong here?

Since you have 13 AZ elk points, it sounds like you are only applying for early season rifle or trophy bow areas. If that's the case, then your point totals are normal and you should draw soon. When you do draw the great tag, I hope you are rewarded for your long wait with a successful hunt.

As for the speed goats, 15 points is sort of the norm. I have heard that it takes at least 10 resident points before you can even think of having a chance of being drawn. With 15 you should once again get a great tag. I only have 5 and next year my loyalty point will make it 7 so I still have a few years to wait.

But then again, some schmuck with 2 elk points and no antelope points will probably take your tags next year. That's the way of the AZ draw system. Colorado has a more equitable system, but even they have a point creep problem.

I switched to CO a few years back so I would be assured of hunting elk every year and it has not failed yet. With 6 elk points in AZ, I have started applying for an AZ tag again. A general hunt bull tag will make me happy so I should also draw in the next few years. Since AZ started the Feb app with Mar results for elk and antelope, its stressful waiting for the AZ results before the CO elk and deer apps are due.

I will make one more comment. Being able to hunt elk every year has taught me alot about elk and I learn more each year. I will be able to put that knowledge to good use when I finally draw my AZ bull tag and maybe I will be able to tag my wall hanger.

Anyway, good luck on your WY hunts and your AZ hunts too when you draw.

Wow that is tuff not being able to get tags in your state.

Of course if your holding out for the trophy tags it does take a long while.

I too hunt Wyoming for antelope, I do hunt Colorado about every year but can only draw the PLO tags or buy a voucher other wise it takes a while here too.

I have 13 BP's for Arizona Antelope and figure this will be once in a lifetime tag when drawn. In my home state of Nevada I have 13 BP's for elk and sheep and I if I ev---er draw the elk tag it will also be once in a lifetime tag. If any of these tags are drawn I'll be looking for a good guide to assist me in my endeavors. Wyoming is 3 BP's and growing. This year I finally drew a unit 15 New Mex elk tag. Its been a long dry spell for this tag. All I can say is keep trying, one of these days the dream will come true.

I had 12 bp's for antelope this year here in AZ and elected to go for archery. I was tag #2 in my unit. I figured by the time I get that rifle antelope permit, I might be able to have two archery permits by then. Worth the trade in my opinion. Now let's see if I can connect on a goat this year!
