Elk hunting question

Can someone explain why some think face masks or paint is important when bow hunting elk?? Do you all think that it makes a big difference

I camo out pretty much to conceal myself from other hunters. Elk dont care what your face looks like, or if you are wearing a blaze orange full body suit.

I think some folks are uglier than others, so they cover up in hopes of not scaring the critters into another state.

Also, some folks must be stinkier than others because they are always using that scent block stuff when they get out of their vehicles and put their boot to the dirt.

Do they make fart block?

Or bad breath block?

Or does that scent block take care of "everything"??

Funny; I saw an ad the other day with a picture of a guy in a treestand. His face was covered up like a Delta Force operator, yet his sleeves were rolled up as far as they could go. His arms stood out like a whitetail's ass.

When i used to coyote hunt on multiple occasions In the stubble I would have coyotes look me in the face wayyyy out there and take off in the other direcction. Same principle? Maybe, also could have been wind. Who knows. I've been told predators can see something with binocular vision and peripheral vision and know what it was. Just wear hecs gear and you can walk right up to things and don't even worry about it!

skin is pretty shiny. Especially in the sun. Paint or masks help to block that.

I always wear a thin mask on my face when I hunt coyotes, helps to disperse my breath on cold mornings, and helps to hide the glare on my skin.

I'm sure elk can see it too. I myself think paint is messy. Also, the masks can help if it's cold, windy, etc.....

You can get them cheap too.

Im not opposed to a mask if it really makes a big difference, just never worn one whitetail hunting. I don't like the idea of one on my face shooting a bow, but who knows.

I do like coverage just because a face does stand out, its a solid color, shiny, etc. I've gone away from masks and just go the face paint route even though it is messy a little, you don't have to worry about it any more when in kill mode. It may not help a ton, but if it might help a little, why not.
