I didn't draw this year but next year I will have eight points but I've been putting in for the Books since they changed it to a draw unit. But recently I put the Crawfords as first choice and Books as second. Would like to hear everyones opinion on both units. Any recent pictures would be nice. I will be able to take the whole week off when I draw. I just don't know which unit is better these days.

You will see 10-20 4 point bucks in the Books to every 1 you see in the Crawfords. The potential for a great buck(185) is there in both units, with the Crawfords having a slightly better chance at a monster, depending on snow conditions.

In my honest opinion, the Books would be a lot funner hunt.

I think the Crawfords is one of the most overrated hunts in the state, still running on reputation of the past.

I hunted Crawfords a few years back. We saw hundreds of deer, and shot the only 4pt we saw in three days, a 24" buck. Some other people who had the tag the same year shot a monster in a different area though. With the Crawfords you put a lot of risk in having an early snow storm.

Bottom line: I don't put in for Crawfords anymore.

The Crawfords is a migration hunt. If we get a good early storm the Crawfords are a fun hunt. But if Mother Nature does not get the deer moving early enough be prepared for a long non eventfull hunt. The Crawfords were way better when the hunt was later in the year.

I think the Crawfords takes too many points for the kind of gamble that hunt is. True, with the right weather conditions you could score a toad, but you know what you are getting with the Book Cliffs. The Crawfords is dependent on weather and good bucks making it through the WY seasons, two factors that are hard to control. The Book Cliffs is a really fun hunt, and probably doesn't have quite as high of a top end potential. That being said, there are some big bucks that come off the Books. If it only took 2-3 points to draw the Crawfords, it might be worth the gamble, but if I was investing 8+ years worth of points I would want something a little more predictable. Good luck in the draws.
