Hide Tanning services

I'm looking to possibly do my own deer taxidermy this year assuming I don't shoot a 180"+ buck. Would a local Taxidermist likely be willing to tan the hide for me, or do most Taxidermists ship them to a company who specializes in it? Does anyone have any names of tanning services if I need to go that route? and how do you prepare the hide to ship it to the service?

Have you checked out Fox Valley Leather in North Salt Lake. I know those guys take in a lot of business from everywhere. I would go directly to them and check them on the net foxvalleyleather.com, which should have much of the info you're looking for. Turn around is about 6 months. I was happy with their service.

they do offer hair on or hair off tanning. for an elk with hair on you are looking at around $300-$350 and hair off $150. They do offer either service.

Fox Valley expressely states that they do not tan for taxidermy.

They will tan hair on, just not taxidermy quality.

For taxidermy tan, try Moyle's. I've used them, good quality, good turnaround time, they flesh pretty good. Probably about as cheap as anywhere. I'm positive you'd pay less than going with a local taxi. They're out of Idaho so shipping is not too bad.

Deer $37, shipping $10-15, worth every penny.

I know a few of our local Taxi's take their capes to them. My dads bull from the Books last year was done by them. It looks real good. Might consider them for Taxi quality hides. I KNOW they are ALOT quicker turn-around than Fox Valley...if time is an issue.

Thanks 223. I've never heard of them. I'll have to give them a shot. Prices are in line with industry and located alot closer to home! Quality TBD.
