I have a tag for the second season in Colorado unit 53. I have never hunted this unit and won't be able to make a pre-season scouting trip until the week before the season opens due to the fact that I am working out of the country. Any info about what general area in the unit to hunt would be greatly appreciated. What is the hunting pressure and deer quality like in this unit?

DEPENDING ON YOUR POINT OF ENTRY ACCESS CAN BE TUFF, PRAY FOR SNOW, KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR GEAR AROUND YOUR CAMP....WE HAD SOME STOLEN. IF THE WINTER KILL WAS NOT TOO BAD YOU'LL HAVE A GOOD HUNT....WE SHOT SOME DECENT BUCKS...NOTHING REAL BIG...NOW WE HUNT SW OF THERE, CHAINS WILL SAVE YOUR BACON....TAKE SOME...YD.

Early snow will push them out of these spots. Bring your legs and lungs. Been a long time since I've been in there.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it! When was the last time you hunted this area? Is there much pressure from other mule deer and elk hunters? What quality of deer can we expect to see? Is the best way to get into the area along the trail which runs beside Coal Creek? If there is heavy snowfall, which direction due the deer migrate? Any additional info you could provise would be greatly appreciated. Good luck this year.

I hunted the area back in 05 and will be going back again this year. What have you found out so far? Let me know and we can compare notes. Good luck and take care.
