Antler Growth

When do the antlers stop growing each year? Have they reached their full potential by the opener of the archery season? I should probably know this but i dont. Just curious, thanks!

It's always been my opinion that they grow almost right up until they shed the velvet, which is generally around the 2nd week of September, although it can definitley vary some. As far as whether or not they're all grown out by the Archery opener, I'd have to say my opinion is no. In Nevada, archery opens August 1...some bucks will still be a little "balled up" at that point! Here in Utah it's a couple weeks later and the bucks are pretty much there, although I'm sure they could add a little in the month or so between the Utah opener and when they shed velvet.

I wonder if it depends on how early or late they shed. This last weekend I saw bucks with very pointed tines and light colored velvet and others with short rounded tines that were very dark, like they were full of blood and very much still growing. I saw one 5x5 with matching 1" cheaters coming of the G2s and I'm hoping he will push those things out another inch or two.

I wonder the same. I have been seeing some bucks that look like they are done growing while others look like they have lots to grow.
