Broadus Mt. muleys

I'm a newbie to posting here but have been lurking for a couple of weeks now. This forum is a wealth of knowledge and gets my heart racing in anticipation of the season.

My hunting partner and I will be bowhunting private land around Broadus the last week of September. This will be our first trip to this part of the state so we have been pouring over topos and aerial photos of the property. It appears to be mostly open and rolling with some agriculture which most likely is alfalfa. The aerial photos show plenty of water but considering the age of the photo and the seasonal conditions I realize that things could change.
The land owner will show us around when we get there and I always pay close attention to the people that live there 365 days a year, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can before I get there so I could have some options in different situations. I would appreciate the input from anyone who has hunted in this area.
Will the travel patterns of bucks change after they have shed their velvet and will daytime activity at water holes be out of the question after three weeks of hunting pressure or should we plan on spot and stalk. Do the bucks more often bed in drainages or high areas. We are both proficient recurve shooters but would prefer to keep our shots within 30 yds or less. This should be exciting.
Thanks in advance FLOTH

Hey FLOTH, Yep, you're at the right place. I know how hard it is sometimes to get decent info on good hunting spots or any info in general, especially when you ask on the first time that you ever posted, but you won't get any sort of that problem or bias from me. I truly can appreciate all the effort that goes into getting ready to go on a big deer hunt and a guy ought to get all the breaks that he has coming to him. Anything that i can do for you, why, you just let me know.

As far as your choice of hunting area, well, you're in luck. I hunted about everywhere and usually always kill a monster muley on the first or second day, so rest easy that you're in good hands here, yes indeed. If you could be so kind as to tell me where Broadus is, i'll be glad to point you in the right direction and share all i know.

Good luck!

You should have a very nice hunt in that region. I've only hunted the Broadus area once but we saw a ton of deer and had a great time. Most of the country is pretty moderate, rolling and a little broken up, but no big mountains or stuff like you'd find a few hundred miles to the west.

I wouldn't worry too much about animals being pressured if I was hunting on private land. There should be plenty of deer and you should have ample opportunities to get within range of some nice bucks. It's been a very long times since I hunted near Broadus, but I've never been anywhere that I saw more deer than around there. I just wish it wasn't such a long drive from where I live.

i've hunted there the last 3 years. lots of deer and antelope in the area. if you have any alfalfa fields i would check them out. seems the deer really key in on them until the rut from my experience. i have a couple of places i hunt up there that i plan on bowhunting in the future and i will definitely be setting up on the travel routes to the fields. spot and stalk could also be fun in the sage if you play the wind right. good luck.

The rolling hills above the river bottoms is where the Muley's hang out. Deer drive in the river beds work good to, I use to hunt just north of there up by Fairview.=, you will have the same type of country.

Thanks to all for taking the time to respond, all of your help is appreciated and will hopefully give us several different options depending on the conditions.

Sage- You are very warming but your time was wasted.

FROTH, Hey, Like i said, whatever i can do...no problem. lol

Really though, cracked myself up doing that last night. I know i got a weird scence of humor, lots of times people don't know how to take it. At least i thought it was funny even if nobody else jumped on board. Glad you got some real pointers! Good luck!
