Anyone got any good news (or bad) on how the Northern deer are looking after that winter we just had?

I just came down I-80 from Evanston on Sunday evening and saw lots of deer from the highway through the canyon, numbers looked ok there on all that private land.

I've seen a lot of bucks in velvet this year. I usually dont start seeing them until they are hard horned so the outlook appears to be pretty good.

I have seen a lot of young bucks, so I think they pulled out of it pretty good. Should be a decent year of hunting.

The feed looks incredible hopefully we can get rain through out the nex two months. Deer herds dont seem as bad as I thought they might be.

I was scouting yesterday on private land in the Monte Cristo area, and I saw more deer than I was expecting. This is my first year on this piece of land, so I don't know how it compares with previos years for this land.

I was up in the Bear Lake/Logan area the week of the 24th. Saw one doe up around the divide in a few hours of glassing, and saw two bucks down by the lake. I was up in that area in February and it was hammered with snow. Hopefully it was just a bad day of glassing but from what I saw it didn't look too good.

seems to be ok have seen bucks in the 1-3 yr class and have seen does with 1-2 fawns and i thought hard winters would cause them to lose their unborn.i have seen some does with no fawns.but overall looks like a decent year to me not the best but decent

I've seen quite a few deer in Cache County - not as many as I'd like, but they are around. We spotted 8 bucks from one spot in one BIG canyon 2 weeks ago. What scares me is that I am seeing VERY few fawns - I think the winter was pretty brutal on them.

Slam, Its looking Great!!!! Its alot better than i thought it was going to be! with only a few weeks til the bow hunt im like a Giddy little school girl on prom night!

been doing alittle spotlighting on monti been seeing alot of small bucks and some nice 5 and 6 point bulls just before you get to public land good luck everyone.

Apollo....something to consider, fawns don't travel much with does the 1st 3-4 weeks following birth, does hide them out, thus July is not a good time to get an idea about success of fawn crop. Go back in mid-August to get a better feel for fawn crop,...Good luck, hope you see lots.

I haven't seen much for deer, but I did see a nice road killed bullwinkle on I-84 on Monday. It was tempting to stop for a velvet spoon and some hide for tying flies but I kept going.

I'll let you know once the hunt starts! Hopefully its time for another success thread! Its still 2 1/2 months out but I am still getting excited....
