With hunting season(s) creeping up, I was going through my packing lists last night and checking them twice. It seems like every year I modify the lists slightly; I write if off as a work in progress. The meat and potato basics have pretty much stayed the same for years but I realized the items that I change from year to year tend to be some what quirky...so what are some other quirky items y'all change from year to year?

-This year (and I hate to admit this, but I'll go ahead and throw it out there) I added a couple of Starbucks frapachinos (or how ever it's spelled) - Anyone ever tried Jack mixed in those...it's pretty darn good cold or warm back in base camp before bed!

So what is your quirky item...

My quirky item is bringing my two brothers along.....j/k

I would have to say kippered herring snacks. Never was a big fan when I was younger and my dad would bring them along. Now they are always on the list. ha ha....funny how that works.

Dried mangos

Their great just dont eat to many at one time or you will never get your butt of the downed tree that you had to use.

Always as long as I can remember and to this day, at least one can of Vienna Sausage is in my pack. Kind of a disgusting little snack...I don't care to know what's in it but it's got to be there.

I was laughing at the 8 day pack thread when I saw the ounces being measured...I think my 8 day pack would weight 200 pounds.

EdleBrock I had to laugh when I saw the Vienna Sausage can. I too used to eat those nasty things more out of tradition than anything else. But I've heard one too many jokes about them being similar to the Vienna Boys Choir shwankie's and I cannot eat them anymore.

My uncle was having coffee with a little baileys in it a couple years ago. He ran out of coffee and added a diet pepsi to his baileys. When the diet pepsi hit the baileys it turned into an instant slushy. So he did the next logical thing and grabbed the tortilla chips and ate it as dip.....He now makes his baileys dip every year.

I like those fruit snacks. Actually fruit flavored snacks. Not lips and pecker flavored.

smoked oysters with blue cheese crumbles. Sardines and cheddar. It's not deer season without them.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-05-08 AT 09:21AM (MST)[p]I am always amazed at the lengths we will go to eliminate our scent.....and then pack in Kipper snacks, smoked oysters, Vienna weiners and such. By the time you put the trash back in your pack, the whole area smells worse than a.....

"Chithouse door on a tuna clipper", or as my bro' in law put it..."a 9 passenger minivan haulin' 15 Winnemucca Hookers"

..........Vienna weiners and soda crackers...just because my Grandpa always did it. I draw the line at sardines in tomato sauce, however.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-05-08 AT 04:59PM (MST)[p]Part quirky - part tradition but I have eaten chocolate donuts the first morning of every hunt since I was 12 years old (I'm 39). A 6 pack of those little waxy donuts and a cup of milk. I even go so far as to not eat them any other time of the year so I don't ruin it. Also have worn the same shirt on opening morning for 20 years. I swear flannel shrinks over time? HEHE.

4 weeks, I'm getting antsy.

Jolly Rancher hard candy goes in my pack. For the last 10-15 years. I hate them the rest of the year. I think I'll try the apple flavored ones this year. The odor may attract a buck?

Started bringing artichoke hearts a couple of years ago now my dad started bringing a couple of jars of pickled asparagus. And always a apricot cliff bar in pack. Its crazy, I like this stuff but just can't afford it normally but for hunting it's become almost a must.
