Boulders early

So after waiting most of my lifetime I finally pulled the bonus tag for this hunt.
I am excited to come down to the beehive state and finally see what I've been waiting all these years to experience.

My question is just looking at the overall size of the unit it would be impossible for me to lay eyes on the entire unit over the summer. I'm thinking it would be better to pick smaller core areas and learn them well. Any input on that ? Also what towns would serve best for amenities and lodging? I am a Wyoming resident and I plan on bringing down horses if needed.

Lucky you I did not draw that unit this year. Horses wouldn't be bad to take up there. Torrey has some lodging and I believe Loa does as well. Some trailcams might not be a bad investment. Alot of the unit is not super glassable so just be ready to chase bugles those horses will help keep your legs fresh.

You may want to bring a fishing pole on some of your scouting trips as well the boulders boasts some pretty good fishing for Brook and Tiger trout.

I had 22 points. It's crazy to think it would take that many to pull a tag down here. One thing is for sure this is a one time deal. I won't live long enough to draw again ! Better make it count

You are correct...most of the better nonresident tags in Utah have to be considered OIL. My family has been blessed with two Boulder tags in the past, and we all dream of being able to return there in the future. You are in for a treat...enjoy the experience and try to keep it fun!

Take horses, but also take your wheeler too. tons of trails and lots of road you won't wanna beat your truck up on.

Good luck

Thanks Horse Creek. I will take my ranger for sure. Funny thing is a lot of the harvest pictures on the Boulder I have looked at are not up high in the aspen / pines. They look like they are down low in the lower elevation flats. Does anybody have any information on this ? During the rut do these herd bulls go down to open areas to herd up cows ?

Boomer.....Congrats on a great tag! Our group drew 3 tags there this year by some stroke of luck, 2 early rifle and one muzzy. We will be on the unit a ton this year and don't mind sharing info/intel. Email me when you get a sec. [email protected]

Wow ! You guys are in for a great season. I'm a little jealous I can't spend the whole summer down there scouting like you guys. I plan on making 3-4 trips this summer and hopefully I can get a handle on it. I'm sure I will see you guys around !
