So my wife just got a call today to claim a tag that was turned in. We accepted the tag unfortunately the hunt is almost here and I've never been on the dutton before honestly never thought she would get a tag for a few years as she had one point. Any help on places to look or where to atleast start would be much appreciated. This will be her first ever Elk hunt so I'm hoping for a memorable one. Thanks in advance

Don't know anything about the unit but for 1 point I'd say you scored. Congrats on the tag and have a fun hunt.

Bring horses or try and line up someone to help with the pack out, the terrain can be quite extreme on most of the unit, and there are very few roads.

The south end is more forgiving as far as terrain.

Good luck and have fun

Horses are definitely a bonus in that unit!
It's been a while since i hunted it but there are some good bulls and awesome country down there. Theres a bunch of elk that hang low in country most drive right by. Get some good glass and spend some hours behind them. The muzzy dates are always great for utah elk. If all else fails get out and listen for elk talking. We spent most of our time on the north end of the unit but there are elk everywhere on the unit.
The farther from the roads you can get the better!
Good luck

I'll be down there for the muzz deer hunt Wed-Sat next week. If you run into me I'll be happy to share what I'm seeing. I'll be in a dark blue Nissan Pathfinder.
