Desolation Unit, Eastern Oregon; west of Anthony Lakes

Drew for the Desolation Unit in Eastern Oregon. Haven't been able to get back to that area for about 20 years! Any information as to the Deer population in that area? Stable, increasing, declineing?

Uh it has gone to crap the last couple years. I had the tag last year we hunted our butts off and saw a little 3 point. The deer numbers have really gone down. In 05 I had the tag and we took a couple decent bucks plus saw some good ones. I would say the good ole days are gone for that unit. I would shoot the first 4 point you see. I think that the east side of the unit might be better than the west side.

I spend some time in desolation every year was just there over the long weekend. Not as many deer as there used to be. I saw only 2 bucks one was a spike the other was a forky with eye guards and was about 16 wide and about the same tall. If people would quit shooting all the little bucks off of the road this unit had potential at on time to be one of the betterr units in the state for decent bucks, but you have to let them grow.
