My son was able to take this great bull last Thursday in Colorado. It was his first bull with his bow . Made a great 30 yard double lung shot...both he and i were very excited..

Congratulations, that's an awesome first bull, especially with a bow! He looks as excited as I would be, that's great.

Congratulations to your son! I hope the experience makes him a life-long elk hunter.

How far did the elk go after he was hit? How did he get so close? Did he call it in? Any details of the hunt would be enjoyable for us to hear of. I am a rifle elk hunter myself, but I admire the skills and challenges bow elk hunters face.

The elk were moving up the hill, we were set up on top of the ridge , we were a little late as most of the elk had already gotten onto the timber. We heard the bull bugling as he was coming up and tried to set up in a place he would come by. He crested the ridge about 80 yards out heading straight at us we were behind a small pine tree. He kept coming we did not make any calls as he was ripping off bugle after bugle the bull hit a small trail that would lead him right in front of us probably less than 5 yards as the bull continued our way and was at 20 yards I had my son draw his bow the bull kept coming we did not have a shot yet we anticipated the bull would go to our left but he got to about 3 yards and turned right I had my son slowly turn to take the shot as he was turning the bull saw movement and jumped out to 20 yards and stopped broadside behind a tree My son had no shot the bull was not spooked as he never really saw us , he slowly walked out to 30 yards and i cow called and stopped him the arrow was in flight before i could even rage the bull perfect double lung shot had blood running down his side on inpact the bull ran back over the ridge where he came from so we lost sight of him we both knew the shot was great and the bull would be down so we were celebrating pretty hard hugs and high fives. After we had settled down we walked to the edge of the ridge and looked over and laying about 80 yards down the hill was his bull.without a doubt the greatest hunt i have ever been on...it was so awesome to share that with my son! I was lucky enough to kill a nice 6x6 the next day also.
