My wife has rifle hunted for 10 years now but I finally talked her into archery hunting with me this year. This is her first bow kill.

Congrats to your wife on the buck, and congrats to you on the beautiful wife! I think you got the better deal. That is so cool thst your wife will go out and hunt. My wife won't go. Its not always a bad thing but i wish she would at least go some. Anyway, congrats and I hope you get to enjoy many more great hunts together.

Buck like that will make some good eating! Your increadably lucky, I hope my girlfriend follows the same path someday! Even better that she likes to bow hunt! What Draw weight did you set her up with to start out?

Great Job. Nice Buck nothing better than a pretty women in camo with her trophy. good luck in years to come.

Not too shabby...the buck isn't that bad either!

Desertflinger,
Congrates to your wife on her first Archery harvest. From the smile on her face she is hooked for life.

Congrats on her first archery deer. May be bigger ones in her future but this is the one she'll never forget. A family that hunts together, stays together. Good for the both of you!

Hi, this is Jean. Thanks for the kind words - I do appreciate it! Thought I would share my story with you.

I have enjoyed rifle hunting for many years and have had the privilege of seeing some incredibly beautiful country and taking many nice animals. I've always wanted to try bow hunting, but decided to wait until my 4 kids were older so I could take the time to devote to more hunting. This season was finally the perfect time to begin my adventure with bow hunting.

Tim took me to the archery shop and we picked out a Diamond Edge. I practiced all summer long, starting out at 40 lbs. and working my way up to 50, which is where I'm at now.

We've hunted a lot this season and I have seen some amazing things. One of the highlights was coming up for Tim's bull elk kill. I brought my mountain bike and helped the boys pack out. While we were there, Tim called in a nice 5x6 bull for me. I had him at full draw at 16 yds. but he wouldn't step out from the timber to give me a shot, and then winded us. Still, it is an experience I will never forget.

A few nights ago I killed my first buck. Tim and I hunted along a cornfield. This buck stepped out at about 16 yards and I shot him. I hit him a little high, in the spine and lung. He dropped instantly and died a few minutes later. Even though I have killed much larger bucks with a rifle, this little buck is a trophy to me. It was an incredible experience for me. Killing an animal with a bow is so much more personal. It was pretty intense, and such a rush.

I definitely have fallen in love with archery hunting, and plan on bow hunting from now on. I feel very lucky to have such a supportive and wonderful husband who includes me on his adventures!

Congrats. This is going to be my wifes first year hunting and I think that I am more excited than she is. We are going to rifle hunt this year and she stated that when are kids get older she would like to start bow hunting. I can't wait.

I believe this is the same Jean that shot a nice ram a few years back. Congrats on you first bow hunt..

Yes, that was me that shot the ram. Thank you all for the nice comments! I really want to encourage any of the girls out there that are interested in trying archery hunting to go for it. Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can.

Jean

The picture without makeup made me laugh out loud. Had my wife come read this post. That's about as close as she'll get to a camera without makeup and like you, she's also beautiful.
Hope your kids have a chance to experience the thrill with you two.
Congrats again on the deer.

Congratulations Jean! It sounds like you had an awesome hunt, and are now hooked on what gets most of us so into archery hunting. Once you start elk hunting with your bow, like you did recently, you'll really fall in love with it whether you kill an elk or not. Welcome to the family of bowhunters.
