Hi, this is Jean. Thanks for the kind words - I do appreciate it! Thought I would share my story with you.
I have enjoyed rifle hunting for many years and have had the privilege of seeing some incredibly beautiful country and taking many nice animals. I've always wanted to try bow hunting, but decided to wait until my 4 kids were older so I could take the time to devote to more hunting. This season was finally the perfect time to begin my adventure with bow hunting.
Tim took me to the archery shop and we picked out a Diamond Edge. I practiced all summer long, starting out at 40 lbs. and working my way up to 50, which is where I'm at now.
We've hunted a lot this season and I have seen some amazing things. One of the highlights was coming up for Tim's bull elk kill. I brought my mountain bike and helped the boys pack out. While we were there, Tim called in a nice 5x6 bull for me. I had him at full draw at 16 yds. but he wouldn't step out from the timber to give me a shot, and then winded us. Still, it is an experience I will never forget.
A few nights ago I killed my first buck. Tim and I hunted along a cornfield. This buck stepped out at about 16 yards and I shot him. I hit him a little high, in the spine and lung. He dropped instantly and died a few minutes later. Even though I have killed much larger bucks with a rifle, this little buck is a trophy to me. It was an incredible experience for me. Killing an animal with a bow is so much more personal. It was pretty intense, and such a rush.
I definitely have fallen in love with archery hunting, and plan on bow hunting from now on. I feel very lucky to have such a supportive and wonderful husband who includes me on his adventures!
