THE BEST HUNTS I'VE EVER HAD THAT EARNED ME A DECENT BUCK WERE HUNTS WHERE I:::

DONE COUNTLESS HOURS OF PRE-SCOUTING!!!

SPOTTED/PATTERNED THE BUCK & SPENT COUNTLESS TIME TRYING TO OUT-SMART THE BUCK ONCE SEASON ROLLED AROUND!!!

DONE MY HOMEWORK & ONCE IN A GREAT WHILE EVERYTHING CAME TOGETHER & I HARVESTED THE BUCK!!!

DONE IT WITHOUT ANOTHER TARD IN SIGHT,THESE TIMES ARE VERY RARE ANYMORE!!!

SPENT 2 DAYS PACKING THE BUCK OUT OF THE HELL HOLE HE WAS IN!!!

----------------------------------------------------------

THE BEST HUNTS I HAVE ENDURED WERE THE HUNTS THAT TOOK THE MOST TIME AND WORK TO ACCOMPLISH!!!

DID FOUNDER EARN THIS BUCK???

DID FOUNDER SCOUT THIS BUCK BEFORE SEASON???

DID FOUNDER PUT A STOCK ON THIS BUCK???

WAS FOUNDER WITHIN ETHICS IN THIS SITUATION???

IS FOUNDER PROUD OF THIS BUCK???

I GUESS YOU COULD SAY WE ALL GET LUCKY ONCE IN OUR LIVES & GIT-R-DONE WITHOUT MUCH WORK,I'M STILL WAITING FOR THAT DAY I GUESS!!!

I'LL LET FOUNDER ANSWER THE QUESTIONS,ONLY HE CAN ANSWER THEM,I'M NOT JUDGING ANYBODY,FOR GAWDS SAKE I WASN'T EVEN THERE!!!

I DO KNOW ONE THING!!!

WHEN 99% OF ALL HUNTERS GET IN A SITUATION WHERE THERES A 30" BUCK INVOLVED ITS HARD TO SAY WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN???

AND I'LL BET MOST WOULD START FLINGING LEAD NO MATTER HOW CLOSE THEY ARE TO EACH OTHER!!!

IN MY OWN OPINION, IF COX'S ARMY OR THE TARD PUMPKINS WERE LINED UP THERE WOULDN'T BE VERY MANY NOT THROWING LEAD AT THE 30" BUCK!!!

AND OF COURSE,IF THERE WERE 1,000 TARD PUMPKINS SHOOTING AT THE BUCK,999 OF THEM WOULD CLAIM THEY DEFINATELY HIT THE BUCK!!!

I'M GONNA TRY AND STAY AWAY FROM THE BIG CROWDS,IT'S HARD TO DO & GOD KNOWS THERE AIN'T NO 30"ERS TO FIGHT OVER WHERE I'LL BE HUNTING!!!

This should be interesting! LOL LOL LOL three times

I'll bite.

---------
NOT TRYING TO STIR ANY $HIT!!!
Response - YA RIGHT! But I'll bite. I have thick skin, never claimed to be perfect, and if anyone expects perfection, I will probably let them down.

DID FOUNDER SCOUT THIS BUCK BEFORE SEASON???
Answer - He did, found it on his 4th scouting trip. Backpacked in 6 miles on that trip, 25 miles total in the two days. Returned home with big sore on heal.

DID FOUNDER PUT A STOCK ON THIS BUCK???
Answer - No. The buck was stupid. Should have left before opening day. 5 big camps within 1200 yards. It's rare to have to "stalk" a deer when rifle hunting anyway. Plus, I shot after many other shots were taken. Sneaking time was over.

WAS FOUNDER WITHIN ETHICS IN THIS SITUATION???
Answer - Public opinion says NO, that I should have let the buck go. I probably should have, regardless whether the other guys could shoot anymore or not. I will have to learn from that.

IS FOUNDER PROUD OF THIS BUCK???
Answer - Somewhat. I still invested many days to scouting and put hundreds of miles on legs to find this deer. I was 10 minutes late, not proud of that, but my little buddy did the best he could. If I had known there would be other people on that knob, I guarantee I would have been there first, even if it meant sleeping there. I should have looked things over the night before, but my head was still hurting from the kick. My bad!
Also, I did hit the buck at 400+ yards, and fatal wound (aimed for spine, bullet dropped low, but the buck wasn't going far). That's a good shot for me. So, I'm proud that I made the shot.
The other guy should have killed the buck. I got it because the other guys just didn't connect, that's not real fun or rewarding. So, that is why I only say somewhat proud.

I GUESS YOU COULD SAY WE ALL GET LUCKY ONCE IN OUR LIVES & GIT-R-DONE WITHOUT MUCH WORK,I'M STILL WAITING FOR THAT DAY I GUESS!!!
Response - A lot of it is luck, but I did walk a lot with that damn pack on my back looking for a big deer to hunt. You have to have luck to get big deer, but a guy can improve on luck with hard work.

WHEN 99% OF ALL HUNTERS GET IN A SITUATION WHERE THERES A 30" BUCK INVOLVED ITS HARD TO SAY WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN???
Response - Most guys replied in the other thread that they would have watched the buck leave. My choice in that time of excitement was to shoot that deer. Like I've said, I felt the other guys were done, empty (jammed), lost the deer. My instict was to shoot that big buck. I'll take the heat.

I'M GONNA TRY AND STAY AWAY FROM THE BIG CROWDS,IT'S HARD TO DO & GOD KNOWS THERE AIN'T NO 30"ERS TO FIGHT OVER WHERE I'LL BE HUNTING!!!
Response - We were 7 miles from the nearest road. It's tough to get further back in than that anywhere in mule deer country. I hunt remote for the same reason, but sometimes there are as many people hunting the Wyoming backcountry as there are on the roads in Utah. Like I said, there were probably 15 guys surrounding that knob, 5 big camps within 1200 yards, plus another 6-7 with a mile.

Ok, so there you go Bobcat.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-20-08 AT 06:31PM (MST)[p]Aiming for the spine at 400 yards, that's a classic! Really though, as long as it's alright in your mind, which it obviously is, or you wouldn't keep trying to defend yourself, who cares?...

Hell, I'd type up a story and submit it for publication. Be sure to include all the facts surrounding the harvest of that great buck as it's certainly one to be proud of. Okay, maybe just somewhat proud of...

SO I GET NUKED!!!

AND THEN FOUNDER RE-POSTS MY NUKED THREAD!!!

I'LL JUST SAY:::

THERES A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHANG!!!

AS I STATED RIGHT OFF THE BAT!!!

I'M NOT TRYING TO STIR IT!!!

YOU KNOW ME BETTER THAN THAT!!! ((( }> }> }> }> }> !!! )))

WELL I HOPE WE CAN LEARN SOMETHING FROM ALL THIS!!!

I HOPE I DON'T EVER GET IN A SHOOT-OUT!!!

BUT IF I DO AND THE BUCK IS 30" BY GAWD I WILL BE THE ONE TO CLAIM I HIT IT FIRST,LOL!!!

I'LL BE FEELING A LITTLE BETTER BY THIS COMING WEDNESDAY!!!

PISSCUTTERS BEWARE BUT NOT OF ME!!!

THE ONLY bobcat THAT KNOWS ALOT OF YOU HAVE HAD THIS IMAGE IN YOUR PEA BRAIN BUT DUE TO POOR SHOOTING TACTICS I'M STILL KICKIN!!!

I'm about tired of hearing what was right or wrong in this situation but it all comes down to that split moment when a big buck runs in front of you. You shoot. I've read all threads on what happened and I can say I was not there but from what I have read Founder I would have shot to. I have a hard time believing some of you would pass just because someone else just shot at this deer. Heres a situation for you archery hunting this year I took a friends 13 year old son with me and we spotted a couple of nice bucks and we stalked them in my mind I wanted this 13 year old boy to harvest his first archery buck. But as luck would have it the bucks stood up and fed my direction right under me at 30 yards. So was I to pass on this buck just cause this 13 year old boy never had a chance at this buck. Think about it if you saw a big buck running not hit would any of you pass on a shot at this buck. don't lie. I would shootttttttttt. on_target

Even Founder is not safe from the MM Ethics Committee....unreal.

Brian, think about it man. Dude beats you to the knob. You should have backed out then, why ruin somebody's hunt by even being in his space. Dude has the buck in his sights after you roll on to the scene. Dude is obviously pissed and flustered that you are even there and must contend not only with making a shot but buck fever and now an audience??

You should have backed out once you saw the other hunters
on the knob. You shouldn't have even been there to pull the trigger. Damn we ain't talking the duck opener at Farmington Bay even though it is public ground ya have to respect others space.

Inches of antler make people do strange things

GOOD GAWD ww!!!

15 YEARS AGO MY UNCLE TALKED ME IN TO GOING QUACKER HUNTING AT FARMINGTON BAY!!!

A GREEN HEAD FLEW OVER & I POPED HIM!!!

AS HE WAS FALLING HE WAS HAMMERED 4 MORE TIMES BY OTHER HUNTERS!!!

THEN 2 TARDS RUN OVER YELLING HE'S MINE,HE'S MINE!!!

I THOUGHT TO MYSELF!!!

YUP HE'S YOURS!!!

BY THE WAY ww,HOW THE HELL YA BEEN???

THIS IS MY NEW GUN,YOU MAY NOT LIKE IT,YOU'LL LIKE IT A HELL OF A LOT LESS WHEN IT HITS ITS DESTINATION!!!

since your hell bent on making yourself feel bad, well here's a way to look at it, you've taken some monster in your day, probably one of the most fortunate guys i know of, so yah should have been easy for you to say there he is shoot!

This is a great thread. Finally feels like Bobcat gets his day in court and Founder defends himself very well!

I caught one thing in this thread that makes me not feel so bad about the whole deal (not that I really did in the first place - like I said before - welcome to the OTC jungle!) Founder said "my little bud did the best he could". All ethics aside, you do things differently when you have a kid with you. Yeah, 10 minutes earlier might have made a big difference, and walking away might have made a lot more sense if he were alone, but you think and see things differently when you are trying to be a dad first. And the obvious response to that has already been debated on the other thread - I am just saying you do things differently and that obviously played into Brian's judgement process.

I say you earned him.

Ontarget.

I can't beleive you still do not get the point on this whole subject!
It isn't the fact that different hunters were shooting at the same buck. It's the fact that Brian walked up to them when they were already there and started shooting with them!
Did you take the 13 year old and walk up to where other hunters were and try to gdet him a shot? Or, did you walk up to an empty area where no one else was?

Brian, sorry to keep firing back at this subject but it is kinda scary that people on this site really don't understand what they are reading and get the main point which is "Don't come walking up to other hunters (that are strangers) and start shooting at the same animal they are shooting at!

Brain, time to close all the threads on this and let it die and be forgotten about.

I'm glad to read that you and sarg have come to a freindly conclusion. Good luck to both of you on future hunts and I hope you continue with your success.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-20-08 AT 09:59PM (MST)[p]Look! Someone put the stock on this guy. At least they gave him a beer. lol

it's a STALK, guys! A STALK! You STALK the deer. Or the girl if you're that kind of guy...whatever floats your boat. I'm not judgin'..... lol

I don't think these folks are too happy someone put the stock on them. That dude has to listen to his wife's complaining allllll night now........

I agree Roy. I think back to my days of following my dad in the woods and I tell ya I know for a fact my dad was always putting me first when I was behind him knowing that the days success meant just as much if not more to me than him. With that said I am sure Founder's little guy played heavy on Founder's mind when that time came to turn around and I would've prob done what he did. It's easy to sit here behind a computer and criticize, but put yourself in the situation and it may be a little more dificult.
Again Founder: Congrats to ya on a GREAT buck. Good to see it worked out for ya.

Founder, Alot of jelous people responding. I don't think you did anything wrong. It sucks for the hunter that missed several times, but what are you supposed to do? Watch the buck run off? 99% of the people who see a huge buck are going to shoot rather someone else is shooting or not. I see it every year. I must not be hunting around the same crowd that is bashing you.

As far as the hunter that went up and shot your buck when it was on the ground, If he new you was still following the buck he never should have shot it. I am surprised he didn't try to claim it.

Sounds like you had a memorable hunt, don't let these comments effect you.

right or wrong anybody who says they would not shoot needs to get a grip on yourself....most people on this site will NEVER see a buck of that caliber, let alone not take the shot. I might not feel good after the fact but instinct takes over...great buck and most importantly thanks for telling the story for all of us to learn from....

i can honestly say I would of never shot the buck,,, I WOULD OF NEVER WALKED UP THAT CLOSE ON POURPOSE TO THE GUYS,,,I WOULD STAYED THE HELL AWAY FROM EM I EXPECT PEOPLE TO STAY AWAY FROM ME IN THE WOODS WHILE ACTUALLY HUNTING,,, WE DONT GO TO THE WOODS TO WALK UP TO OTHER GUYS AND ASK WHATS UP... RESERVE THAT FOR THE ROADS OR CAMPS,,,,

I just re-read Founders story again.
You looked out of curiosity to see what the kid was shooting at. He missed! His dad missed! 6 rds. down field!!!!!

I have buddies who miss. They are the same guys who blow me off when I invite them to go to the range on their days off, laugh at me when I tell them I got up at 5:00 a.m. to drive 140 min. round trip to get range time in before work 2-3X a week and ignore me when I ask if they want to go do some plinking with the .22's or air rifles. When I talk about shooting they respond "I SUCK!"

It's your buck! There is no way they would have made a 400+ yd. shot! They were just flinging lead! That's gross! It shows no respect for the deer!

You didn't know the other guys where there as far as I can figure.

Maybe you taught the dad,his kid and your boy a lesson in the importance of being a good marksman.

Congratulations on a fine buck!

The more people I meet the more I like my dogs

I don't see any reason to fuss. Those guys missed, and he killed him, with what by all accounts was a great shot. That's public ground they were all standing on. Congrats on a good buck.

>It's your buck! There is no
>way they would have made

He wounded the deer, he didn't kill it! Your acting like it was some wonderful shot-it wasn't, it required another hunter to kill it. But you are right about one thing; that IS pretty gross.

Son

I bet the other guys that came down and claimed they put the kill shot on the buck where thinking about claiming it as their own but they seen that Brian had been kicked in the head by a horse and was still out there hunting and making a fatally wounding shot at 400+ yards and thought better of it. I can assume alot about the situation but cant know anything about it and neither can anyone else but I suspect that the deer was laying there dying when the other 2 shot and maybe finished it I can suspect that it might have already been dead but for crying out loud if the guys on the mountain that your claiming he took the deer from weren't pissed enough to call the game warden or woop some arse then why can all the computer jockeys.

OK, I've let people rip into me on my own website. I can take it. In the end, we learned that some claim they also would have shot the buck as I did, more claim they would have let it go. I respect some of the opinions shared, whether they agreed with what I did or not. There is no doubt in my mind that there are people in this world that are closer to perfect than I. In the end, I regret a few things that happened in those few moments. Regard me as you wish.

I'm locking the thread now because I think about every opinion possible has been shared and I've got work to do and more big bucks to chase.

Sorry if someone didn't get their chance to take a stab at me, but I'm sure your thoughts were posted by someone else.
