Well I started my hunt off this year catching up on chores at the home front and started my season off about a week and a half late. When I did hunt I found out that I didn't get into shape at all this year. Started my archery season off hunting with a 16 year old kid and we found some really good bucks while bivvy hunting but just couldn't connect on anything. Tried connecting off and on on several good bucks throughout the season and walked a lot of miles.
Learned a few things;
#1. If you don't get into proper physical shape it affects your mental state as well and can really put a damper on your affectiveness as a hunter.
#2. If you do not find big bucks in your area then move on to a new place.
#3. Packing your pack as light as you can really does make a big difference on your body. In the past I've always brought extra this and that in order to be prepared for the inevitable or extra luxuries. Pack smarter and pack only what you need.
#4. As you get older you have to admit to yourself that you cannot keep up with the younger guys. You are a better hunter if you go your owne comfortable pace. If you wear yourself out you may as well take your first day off from hunting and just lay in your tent licking your wounds like a hound dawg.
Every year I learn a few valuable lessons and this year I was no exception. Anybody got any recipes for tag soup? Ha ha. I'm sure it won't be my last time to eat it! Goodluck to the rest of ya! fatrooster.

Drew,
Sorry to hear that you never filled your tag this season. Saw Rob a week ago and said he was going back over there to try again. Said that he called and talked with you and was hoping to get together and chat.
Might see ya in 36 days if you are not working.

Brian

fat,

I like my tag soup with a can of Cream O' Mushroom. I put elk or deer meat with it, but tags work well too.:)

I have ate a few in my life fat, but it never does taste very good! If a guy has never ate it then he is not huntin'! Better luck next time.

Tag soup is a bit sour---

As stated by the others, its part of the game.

It sounds like your not going away empty handed, you picked up some good info on the finer points of packing in!

"i wash my soup down with lots of these!"

I have always found out that tag soup is very un-nutritous just a filler. I alway go buy a fifth of my favorite scotch and roll my tag into a swizzle stick, add ice in a glass and fill as needed stir and enjoy(sulk). to bad about the hunt.

DREW,
Give me a call on your next days off and we'll fix your's and Critter's tag for you !!!!!!!! Thanks for taking him with you.

Drew, Im sittin at the same table. Warm water and a big bowl for the tag. No regrets though. We have plenty of time to hunt some more.

Tag soup is actually good for the soul sometimes. It teaches you to not only hunt harder, but it also teaches you to hunt smarter. It sounds like you're learning!

Besides, you still have the Star Hotel to fall back on!:)
