Read the "how wide is he" post. Your bluffs been called. Care to raise ?

Dude, it's a 'how wide is he' post. There is no 'right' answer because this buck is alive and walking. Probably on some private, no hunting ground too, so it probably will never get killed. On top of that, the pics are super $hitty. If you feel that buck is over 30 and 190, good for you. You are setting yourself up for some serious ground shrinkage in the future, but that's your problem not mine.
I am not bluffing when I say I would not shoot it. Width is the last thing I look at when I am judging a buck. The magic 30 means nothing to me. I would rather shoot a 18 inch 200 inch buck than a 30 inch willow horned 160 buck any day. Last year, I did indeed do just that.
Here's an example of bucks I pass on yearly. I was 20 yards from this buck during hunting season on public ground. I leaned the rifle against a tree, took my video camera out of my pack and filmed this buck for about 20 mins. Never once did I feel the desire to shoot it. The side you see scores 90 inches. He has 27 inch mains. This buck had a weak G3 on the side behind the brush. Even at that he grossed 184 inches. And he is a hell of a lot better buck than the one in the 'how wide is he' post.

My buddy killed this buck 2 days later. I was very happy for him.
Here's another buck I passed on that same week. I guessed low on him (I guessed 190). I was glad that my other buddy killed him. He's a 9x9 double dropper that grossed 202 green. Official dry was 199 and some change.
I went on to pass on many many monster bucks that year and ate tag soup. Why? Because I was looking for one buck in particular. Here's the buck I was looking for. Ended up killing him a year later on the last day of the season, after passing up many big bucks that year too. He grossed 202 when I killed him. I chased this buck for about 5 years. He scored 225 in his best year. How do I know that? Because I have 4 years of sheds off him.
And yes, I do know what a 30 inch buck looks like. I have one on my wall. The fact he's 30 outside isn't near as fun as the fact that he's 215 gross.

AMEN!!! I am with you on your judging of the other buck. I'd put him at 27 inches wide with 22 inches of main beam. Nice bucks bc. My buck was a 31 1/2 wide main frame and grossed 198 officially and I'd say he's a bit bigger than the buck in the other post. By the way he was not much past his ears (huge ears).

All my other big bucks I've done Euros on and they are all actually in my big shed pile that I have in my living room. LOL! The only other mounts I have are a cougar rug and a black bear rug. Those are some awesome bucks! I'd have to agree on your judgement of the how wide is he post. Doesn't look 190 to me

When he finished growing, he was was right at 200 inches typical. Compare that buck to the buck orginally posted. Which 190 class buck would you want to shoot? LMAO!!!
Here's another 190 buck I passed on the opportunity to go after. Instead of flipping a coin, I told my buddy he could after it, as I wanted to see him kill a big buck. I got to watch the entire stalk through the spotter and watched my buddy hammer the buck in his high country bed. This buck is only 22 inches wide. Way way better buck than the one posted in the thread in question.
Here's a buck I killed in 04. I was actually stalking a much bigger typical. Without us knowing, the bigger buck took his doe out the back door and as I stalked into the timber, I jumped up this buck at about 20 yards. I saw deep front forks so I pulled the trigger. It scored 178 and some change. A dink. LOL! Look at his forks and then look at the forks on the buck in the other post. IMHO my buck would score better.
Here's a lionkill pick up I found. This buck is right at 29 inches cheater to cheater. Would have been 30 pre-rodents. This is the kind of 30 incher I'm lookin for. Not because of the magic 30 but because he's well over 200 inches.

Unless we're talking a contender for the book score is pretty meaningless to me. everyone's different I guess. I'd say the buck in the "width" post is just as impressive as some of these pics.
Here's a 190 gross triple dropper I killed in 2003. I missed a much much bigger buck the evening before. It was well over the 200 inch mark. On top of that it too had a big big dropper. After searching all day for the big dropper buck, I settled for this triple dropper.
Here's a 190 typical that my 11 year old nephew shot last year for his 1st ever buck. Look at those deep forks. That is what a 190 buck should look like eh?

BCBOY that is one hell of a portfolio...just keeps getting better. I'd have to agree, width wise the buck in question can't be much more than 28" and DEFINATELY is not a 190" class deer. I'd kill him but, let's not get too carried away with him.

Let me make this perfectly clear. BCBOY knows a hell of a lot more about big deer than me! But the deer in Hunter231?s picture looks at least 30 inches wide to me. Don?t think he'll even sniff 190 gross and probably not 180. Like BCBOY said, it's a guess from a poor picture and he's more than likely on a place Hunetr231 can't hunt.

Nice bucks bcBOY but the bet remains and you havent raised you just flashed some pics to get out of what ya started by calling that a shi@@y tasting 26 " buck and a rat and whatever else youd like to call the buck in the width post. So I still say he's closer to 190 than 160 and closer to 30 than 26 outside spread. If I lose on either you win the bet, sound fair ? Does to me. Name your price like I said before. You want to bet or not ? Its a yes or no answer right here in front of witnesses. Hunter231 has to measure and confirm the kill, if it doesnt get killed bets are off. I'm not sure what the big deal is. he is not that big. I would shoot him with my bow but he is not even in the same class as a 190 buck. theres just no way.

if that buck goes 190 then my last blacktail will go 170, hes a nice deer but maybe 165-170... Elkcrzy what do you want out of this thread???? BCboy Backed it up, unless that buck is dead we will never know...but I am betting those short forks arent gonna add up, a lot of people kill this size of buck hoping its a 190+ deer but when they run the tape they fall short....is it a great deer... sure it is... but it is not a 190+ 30 inch wide buck....

I think this buck and the one in question are pretty similar in build except for the back end. This buck has a 5th on his left side and has LONG G2's compared to the other buck. He is 29 7/8 wide and scores 181. That buck may be close to the 30" mark but falls VERY short of 190" I would say more mid 170s. Maybe you both win? Width to one and score to another. Seems fair enough.

There have been tons of 'guess the score' threads on MM over the years, and guess what, there have been many times, my guess' have been well off the mark. Do I loose sleep over that? Nope. I've said before and I'll say again, if you like that buck and think it's 190 and 30 inches, good for you. If you see one like it, kill it. It obviously turns your crank. Like I've said before, for me personally, if I see a buck like that, I'll pass.

I'll give you a crash course:
1 inch is equal to 2.54 centimeters; so if he was talking centimeters then the buck in question would definitely be over 30, clearly BCBOY knows what he is talking about and needs no reminding.

Hey BCBOY i was just curious who scores the deer you take because it seems to me that your about 15 inches over what i would guess them to score. Like the buck that you first posted that you claim scores over 200 inches that is 18 inches wide. I do understand width is not everything that there is some 200 inch bucks that are only 18 inches wide but they have to have mass long main beams and deep forks to make up for the spread. That buck that you said is over 200 that is only 18 inches wide is not exceptionally heavy and is also weak in the back forks. Also the buck your nephew killed in the velvet you say that is a 190 buck which it very well could be but i shot a buck this year that i rough scored at 177 and it seems to be heavier and alot deeper forks than the buck your nephew killed and my buck is only 22 inches wide which thats about how wide your nephews buck looks. I would like you to look at a picture of my buck and tell me what your guess would be on a score. I dont know how to post pictures on this site but i have pictures of my buck on muleymadness.com under paunsaugunt archery buck and also on bowsite.com under 175 ich paunsaugunt buck if you would like to look at the pictures and tell me what you think. Thats kind of a long winded and beating around the bush way of saying you think his scoring is full of sheet.
Score is just a number and the quality of the trophy is only as great as the honor in which it was taken. I don't think there is any question that Steve Dana is an honest and extemely hard-working hunter. I say well done and thanks for sharing all your pics and stories, Steve.

Hey buckspy i am not down grading him at all i may have said that wrong about his scoring. I want him to look a my buck and tell me what he thinks it will score because i scored my buck myself and i am terrible at it and i can see from his pictures he has taking some amazing animals and i would like his opinion of what my buck would score. Your right the score is just a number i dont much care what his animals score he has killed some huge bucks in my opinion. So just to clear it up im not trying to start a fight i enjoy looking at all of his pictures the are great.

So Pauns, I'll decline on lookin at your buck on some other website. Don't have the time to go look for it as I've got to finish up packin for my son's moose hunt which we leave for tommorrow. While guessin scores can be a fun way to pass time, this is hunting season so I'm going hunting. Hopefully, I'll be able to post up some swamp donkey pics when we get back.

Tell you what fellers. I don't care what B.C.Boy's bucks really score, he has some really good animals there. Three guys can score an animal and come up with 3 different scores (even pro's) who cares? He's posted some great trophy pics and if you guys want to post the same of your trophies great...lets stop the bickering about what this scores and that scores because we will never REALLY find out anyway. A pic says a thousand words imo.

Its not about his bucks or their scores. To me its about bcBOY basically degrading another persons opinion and someone elses buck they posted a pic of when I now see he doesnt have much of a clue about score or width of a buck.

I cant take that bet unfortunately cuz your right. I just cant sit here quiet like normal and listen to someone call a gorgeous buck a 26" 160, willow horned, rat tasting whatever else he called it. Its degrading, I dont like it so I called him on it and gave him a sporting chance to come out on top. How can I be more fair ?

You keep thinking all your bucks score over 200 bcboy i guess they score different in canada. You have taken some nice bucks but by the pictures you have posted of the ones you have passed up you have also supposelly passed up some bucks nicer than the ones you have shot. It looks like to me you think all the bucks you have shot are are the best bucks out there and they all score 200 inches when really there probably 170 then when someone posts a really nice buck on here you downgrade it saying that it is a willow horned 160 buck. You dont have to downgrade other bucks just because you didnt shoot it. You really must be short and have that little man with a big head disease. Cant wait to see the pictures of your sons 38 inch moose that scores 390. Keep up the good work
