i went down on the north face of the uintahs. hunted very hard. scouted very very hard. if i can shoot a two point i'd be very happy.

I hunted one day archery in the Uintahs on the North Slope. There haven't been many deer in this region for years. I saw a spike and two 2-points on my one-day trip. (More tradition than really hunting). There are large deer there but they are few and VERY far between. Last year on the same day trip I saw 7 bucks, and only 3 does. One of those bucks was a 160 class 4-point and another very tall, willowy 140-150 class. It was total luck stumbling on them, and I was unable to harvest any of them.
The Northern region Public Lands are struggling. It is some beautiful country in the Uintahs, and if you're looking for a 2-point I'm surprised you didn't find one. My family mostly goes up there for the scenery, but you may get lucky with a buck.

i can help you out if you get into cache valley. i hunt every weekend and i am confident in finding you a two point or maybe something better than that. pm me if you are interested.

You put me in area that i could harvest a buck any size i will pay for your knoweldge i have 100% succes in the northeastern zone, due to a mistake on my application by my friend i am stuck with northern zone with no time to scout and running out of meat from last years hunt. Thanks

i will split meat, pay if i need to. i just would really like to shoot my first buck before i am 18. a small 2 point will set me just fine. i mainly want meat but i couldnt get a doe tag. willing to hike, drive, camp whatever it takes to shoot a deer.

Are you serious? Get off the freaking internet and start hiking around scouting! There aren't tons of bucks on the Cache, but you can find a 2 point if you look. Go to Tony Grove, check out Franklin Basin, hit the Sinks, try Wood Camp Hollow, or my personal favorite, hike straight up the face of any of the mountains on the east side of cache valley and you will find deer. One year I was at the check station in Logan Canyon talking to some hunters that were complaining that they couldn't find any bucks. I started glassing up high in the cliffs right from the check-station on the highway and saw a big 2 point on the top of the mountain. They started after him and didn't even make it 1/4 of the way up the hill before the turned around and headed back down. If you want one bad enough you can get one, but you have to put in the time in the field. No hot internet tips can make up for time spent in the field. Good luck.

Stay home and help save what's left of that unit. ;-)

Lighten up DAX, Yes he is serious, He is young and maybe not have a family member orfriends to go with to help. He is just asking for some general help not a honey hole.

I don't know where you would like to go but up around Morgan the UDWR has some property, I have hunted it before and it is popular, so you won't be alone, but if you get up real early and get up high and back in a ways you will have a good shot at getting a buck.

Call the UDWR and ask them about the property they will give you more information. They also have a book that you can purchase that tells about all of the different lands that they have.

Good luck to you and don't let these guys giving you crap get you down they are good folks but they are just typing on a computer, if they new you or talked to you in person 99% of them would help you out.

exactly what?

i have spent every single night out in the mountains for 4 months looking for deer. and barely saw any. this is where last year while with my buddy hunting elk we saw several good class deer. and this year nothing. so dont tell me i havent been out because i have. i have hiked every mountain in cache valley and havent seen any bucks.

Easy folks. Maybe I was too harsh, but I thought the offer to pay for info or share meat for tips leading to a 2-point sounded pretty desperate. I guess if a guy has been out hiking and scouting for the last 4 months and haven't seen a buck yet that is pretty serious. The areas I mentioned always hold some deer, but you will have to be out before sunup and stay out until after dark doing some serious hunting. Also, you gotta hunt more than just the opener, stay after it and eventually the odds will be in your favor. I always liked the last weekend of the hunt. I have a NE region tag this year, and honestly, I think I would rather have a Northern tag. Good luck.

i am serious, and i am young. i lived in the city my whole life, except the past three years. since then i have been working on doing as much hunting as possible. during archery and muzzy i hunted close to 10 places and didnt see a single buck. hiked all day, over mountains, down to river bottoms. i'd do twice that for an elk. i dont want a trophy 180"+ deer because hunting to me isnt about getting the biggest or the best. it's about getting out of town and being in such a gorgeous place. some can understand where i am coming from. when i get older and more informed about hunting i want to be the guy in my niehgborhood that helps people get their first deer or elk. straight and simple.

hey i gave you my number i have some time this week if you want to call me. check your pms. and call me!!

>i have hiked every
>mountain in cache valley and
>havent seen any bucks.

Weird. I've hiked a few mountains in Cache Valley and have seen 30 bucks in the last month and MANY more over the summer.

I have commitments for opening weekend, but will be going several more times during the week. I don't mind taking you if you don't slow me down (I can assure you I'm not very fast), are quiet, and prepared to shoot and take care of anything you shoot. I can get you into deer within a few miles of Logan if you're willing to hike a bit.

PM me if you're interested.

i hunted my A off all day yesterday and this morning. Blacksmith fork yesterday morning, Mudd lake flatts from noon till dark, saw 6 does nothing else. this morning went on the wellsvills didnt see one deer. my buddy who hasnt hunted for 3 years went out to his buddies house to hike around and shot a deer in his friends hayfield. RIDICULOUS!

Thunder,

Stay out of the North Slope. The cold front last weekend got the deer migrating out. Most of them are in lower elevations and on private property by now. There may be a few still up there, but not enough to spend your time looking for them. It is very typical for the deer in that area to move out earlier than other areas. I can't tell you where else to go as I don't know much about other northern areas, but I would pm some of the others who have offered to take you with them. That may be a great opportunity for you. They may even be able to give you a few pointers and help you spot deer that you just aren't seeing. There are deer in the areas you are hunting, but no doubt you may just not be seeing them and going out with someone older with some experience under their belt could be very valuable and save some frustrating future hunts. I'd offer to take you, but I've got a central tag. Also try to get out during the week. That is mostly when I hunt and I find the deer have calmed down a little bit after thousands of people have been beating the bush for the weekend. They tend to be out a little longer without the crowds pushing them around.

Good Luck and stay at it. Just being on the mountain more than the next guy will increase your odds dramatically.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-19-08 AT 09:46PM (MST)[p]Keep after it, try glassing more and hiking less. Let your eyes do the walking. Find a nice secluded hillside or canyon, preferably one with no road in the bottom or on the tops of the ridges, it should have some good feed like bitterbrush, service berry, snowberry, mountain mahogany, sagebrush, etc. Also there needs to be some cover, maybe some patches of aspens, cedars, or timber. Water can be good two. Sneak in there quietly without skylining yourself, find a good spot to glass and sit it out until you see a buck you can stalk, or until it gets absolutely too dark to see. It sounds like you have covered a lot of country, so you have probably seen a spot or two that look good. Choose one of those spots and try glassing there during primetime, if your evening of glassing is not productive, move on to another spot for the next morning or evening. Remember less walking, more glassing. Let your eyes do the walking. Glass until you are sure there are no deer in the area, then do it all over again, and again, and again until it is too dark to see. The longer you keep after it the better your odds get. Good luck.

well this year i cant say i got a buck. but i can say i did work my tail off. i hiked several miles a day. i hunted every day i possibly could. i did see a huge buck. 4x4 roughly 160" 250 yards away. it was on the other side of a fence and i wasnt sure if i was able to shoot it, so i didnt. i find out i can shoot it where it was, that mistake i will regret.

i will be ready next year. i am hunting idaho for deer and elk maybe bear. wyoming for deer elk and antelope. and utah for deer elk antelope and maybe cougar.

BRING IT. i will be ready.
