LAST EDITED ON Oct-01-08 AT 04:21PM (MST)[p]I was just looking to buy a new binoculars and was wondering what are some good ones for mule deer hunting. below $400

Check out the Optics forum for lots of opinions on this. From personal experience I can recommend the Nikon Monarch ATB if you are looking in the $250 to $300 price range, and the Swarovski SLC if you are looking in the $1000 plus price range. There are many other good options as well. Decide how much you are willing to spend then go to a good sporting goods store just before sunset and ask to take a couple outside and see what works best for you. What works best for one person isn't necessarily going to work well for the next guy. A lot depends on your eyes.

I bought a pair of Vortex Vipers 10X42 this summer. I have loved them. The are some awsome glass for the price you pay. My eyes could not pick a difference between my $500 dollar binos and the 1000+ $ pair my buddy had.

I would look into them.

Leupold, or Nikon. I personally have the Leopold and love them. But it's definitely between those two.

+1
i think it really is between leupold or nikon. i have leupold, have had them for 5 years now and wouldnt trade them for anything. although i wouldnt mind a pair of the monarchs, just in case

LAST EDITED ON Oct-01-08 AT 07:56PM (MST)[p]For $500 there aint a bino that will hold a candle to the vortex viper. Spend the extra $100 and get the 10X42 vortex viper. Trust me on this one.

There is a new binocular coming out made by Leapold. They are 10x42x17 power. they are 10x42 and with a flip of a lever they go to 17 power. What a great idea!!! Check them out before you buy anything else. This is the next generation bino. They are more expensive but if you consider you won't need to buy a spotting scope it becomes very affordable.

Look at samplelist.com. They sell high quality used binos from gun shows/dealers. They are essentially brand new and cost around half as much. I have bought a couple pairs of binos and the descriptions are right on. You can also call them and they will pretty much tell you right there what the condition is.

I was alway's a Leupold/Swarovski guy, becauase of my Dad & grandpa. Swaroski are the best around, but the price is just outrageous. I have a Swarovski spotting scope, but it was a gift for my birthday. Then last year I bought my sister the vortex 10/42 for her birthday cause they were a great price @ a expo show. I do believe they are the same quality as my Binos "Swarovski" for ten times the price....Great product. Also with her's I don't have to be more careful about breaking them. I am rough on equipment! Tryout the Vortex Vipers they impressed me.

I have the nikon monarchs and love them there a great glass for the money...+1 for the leupolds can't go wrong with the company and there customer satisfaction is off the charts...I would go with either one.

I have the cabela's XT fullsize bino's. The optics are great. They do a great job of sucking in the light. I think they are about 300 bucks. My brother has the comparable nikons that are about 400 bucks. Both of us agree the cabela's are better optics. The best thing about them is the warranty. My first pair actually had a defect. The eye relief would not turn. I had lost the receipt. I just walked in the store handed them to the cashier. She grabbed me a new pair and i was on my way. About a year later my dog found that they made a great chew toy. She gnawed the hell out of them. One again i did not have the receipt( you might notice a trend with this..I can't save a receipt to save my life). Once again i walked in the store and they gave me a new pair. I think for the price and the warranty you can not go wrong. they are a outstanding mid budget bino.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-03-08 AT 11:19PM (MST)[p]I have the 12x42 nikon monarchs as well and love them. they are light and clear as can be. You also have a 25 year warrenty. only around 320 bucks.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-04-08 AT 00:47AM (MST)[p]check out the Leupold Green Ring Olympic Binoculars I put them side by side with my buddys nikon monarchs and I like these better. just don't buy them from cabelas thay want to much for them.

If money was not a issue I would diffinatly look into getting a pair of Binos from one of the big three. But where $$$$ is an issue I would stongly suggest looking over the Cabelas brand. They have a few binoculars that are great for there price. The things that is realy nice about the Cabelas binos is that when you are ready to up grade to a better pair of Binos you can trade youe old pair in and they will give you full faces value towards your new binos.
