I was wondering how the Paunsaugunt rifle hunters are doing this year. I had a rifle tag in 2006 and it was a fun but difficult hunt. With the weather this past weekend, I am sure the deer will be moving off the top. Let us know how you are doing and post some pictures if you are successful. I have a muzzleloader tag on the unit this year, which opens three weeks from today. I would be happy to swap rifle hunt information for tips on the upcoming muzzleloader hunt. Send me a pm if you prefer. Good luck!

Thepenquin is correct. I drew a rifle tag in 2006 through the regaular DWR draw. I then drew a muzzleloader tag in 2008 at the Hunting Expo.

we just shot a 28 1/2 inch 3 by 3 buck. my brother got him this morning and the day before he shot at 8 other bucks bigger than that. one was at least a 35 inch 4 by 4 and another had trash all over him. we left him to hunt by himself this morning and he got to exited and shot that. but still it was a good buck. i will get some pics. posted as soon as i can. by the way we were hunting on are privet property.

Sorry to hijack the post, but do you (Hunt365)not see a problem with shooting at 8 different buck in the same day? Did your brother sight his gun in? Did he follow up on his shots or just assume he missed?

Hunt 365...did your brother's helmet and spit bucket get in the way of his sights? Even the best of the worst shooters can't miss eight shots in one day at different bucks? You have to call a cease fire at some point don't you? Was he shooting from the short bus as you drove through "are privet property?" What gives man?

Thank you to everyone who has sent me a pm. I enjoy hearing about the Paunsaugunt and its deer herd. It helps me stay busy while I wait for the muzzleloader hunt to roll around. Keep the posts and pm's coming.

I saw a good buck there once about 2 years ago uptop on the plateau. I have not seen any since then. I will try to keep my open. I will be down there the last week of October. I will try to keep in contact with you if I see something biger than 165.

I hunted that area, never saw much........but I did get off several sound shots

Here's a buck that Tyler Brinkherhoff shot near Tropic on the Pauns. When his dad went out to start the truck to warm it up, this buck was in their garden.

I asked a friend and he said yes and I got his name wrong, it was Kyler Brinkerhof.

Yah I know, it was in their garden and it was dark and they watched go over a hill into the fields and they shot in the fields, at least that how I heard it

That's very interesting??? 8 Bucks + 1 day + missed shots?? How many campfire beverage were consumed?... Ethical?? Sounds like dude needs to go back to Hunter's Safety 101..

I'd be nervous if I was hunting in the same area as your brother man...

Great Deer right there man. That's about as good as you get, great forks, width, heigth... Dandy.

One for the wall for sure!! Seems like sometimes they are just where you find them. Great buck, thanks for sharing.
