Hello, I am new to the forum and never hunted muleys but when I seen this I could not pass it up.I will try to post a picture, Let me know what you think, just looking at it it will go way over 200".. I found the harvest tag on the back of the mount and it was shot in 1938 in Colorado .. I can't figure the picture thing out.. can I email them to somebody to post for me? Thanks Bill

Let's get this thing posted! I wanna see what a 200" muley looks like to someone that's never hunted muleys, lol. Notthing personal so I hope no offense, I've just seen to many guys that have hunted muleys they're whole life and still wouldn't be able to judge a muley that big.

No offense taken, I could be wrong. If you seen the recent post of "I got a big buck" I would say it is at least that big or bigger. It is a main frame 6x6 not counting brow tines which it has 2 and a few stickers with the longest being 4". It has a total of 17 points and a widest inside width of 29 3/4..I sent pictures to BGbasbhat, If someone else wants them to post let me know. Thanks

Yeah it's pretty boring with no pictures..I paid $325 for him..I just did a pencil tracing of a brass tag that is on the back of the mount above where the harvest tag was and it says Jonas brothers taxidermists,Denver co. I looked them up on the net and they are still in business, I email them with the story and a picture.

Awesome buck. I'm not into buying somebody elses trophys but some are. I'd say you probably made a good investment picking this monster up. Super trophy!!

wow, that's a great buck and well over 200". I'd say you got a heck of a buy. Did they happen to know who killed it or in what area it came from? You might score it then check the books for a buck of the same size just in case he's in there, might be kinda cool to find out who killed it. . .

"Roadless areas, in general, represent some of the best fish and wildlife habitat on public lands. The bad news is that there is nothing positive about a road where fish and wildlife habitat are concerned -- absolutely nothing." (B&C Professor, Jack Ward Thomas, Fair Chase, Fall 2005, p.10).

Heck of a buy, That's a monster buck, Like Tony said check the books you just might find out some more infor.

I have the tag with the name on it, can't quite read the writing but I think it says Grant D Runan. I have the tag # and I will try to contact Co fish and game. I am also waiting to here from the taxidermist and will see if they still have records, I also have a call into a B&C scorer in my area but have not heard back from him yet.
Do you think he will score typical or non. I have the sheet on how to score him and I think he is typical, I will try it tomorrow.

That deer is sneaking up on 200 just on the main frame. Definately over 200 NT gross.

Unfortatly for the buck there is no way he will book typical with the extras (all the NT points are deductions on the main frame score) and he doesnt have enough trash to book as a non typical.

Awesome deer though and the clues to the history make it even more interesting.

Great buck as i said earlier. I'm no official scorer but i have a bunch of B&C Books, have scored more than a few, and have been chasing B&C type bucks for over 40 years. Couple things:

You may run into too many non typical points to book him as a typical. On both sides, his g-2's and g-3's both fork. Only one antler in each of those 4 forks is going to score, 4 of them are going to be deductions, + the misc. points and the cheater, all deductions from typical gross score. He may "gross" score high but the All-Time Boone & Crockett Records of North American Big Game Book is all about "net" scores.

That said, from just looking, this may be a rare Buck that makes Book, both in the Typical and Non-typical catagory's. Last i knew, you had to pick one or the other, could not list it as both. Most pick the catagory where the animal has the highest ranking.

Good luck and congrats on your find!!

Joey

Awesome find! I have to ask, tho, cuz the photos make the horns look like they are either pinned....or are they sheds?

Either way, I'd say you came away a winner. Pretty cool too that the harvest tag comes with, it would be neat to know the story behind this one!

onemoregun, Kirt Darner is a gentleman who has a collection of mule deer antlers, all of which he claims to have harvested himself. Some of them have been proven otherwise, and I believe that he bought, traded, or stole most of them.

He is currently serving a sentence for other wildlife related crimes.

you stoled it!! just plain and simple. that main frame is just killer. remount that buck and enjoy what you have. ken

Great find on a great buck.Over 200" for sure & would like to know the numbers if you get the buck measured.Put a tape on the main-beam & let us know that!!!!!

Hey there TBY - uh, way over 200". I'm saying closer to 230". Hell, his main frame is 200". Great buck and a steal for $325.

It's always an adventure!!!

Smart mouth huh? You aint seen jack #*?# out of me! Lol. That is an awesome buck and ill agree he's over 200. I'm jealous. I love the fact that he had the guts to buy it even though its not his cuz he knew what that deer really was. Wouldve been disrespectful to a deer like that to get "tossed". Awesome find!

I am in the minority but I think the Cape makes it look even cooler. You know that the deer is old and has been around for a long long long time. Great job by the taxidermist.

My youngest daughter which is in the picture agrees with you to keep it looking old, I have not yet decided what to do.

Great buck,, A few years ago I was at a taxidermists home picking up a mount. He brought a rack out to show me it was a huge cactus head. He told me that a guy was a local landfill dumping garbage. He seen a horn sticking out of some trash when he went to check it out it was a monster that someone had just tossed.

I know my wife was mad at my daughter last week but I didn't think she was mad enough to put her on ebay. As for the buck it has not been on ebay while I had it nor was this picture. I can't say what the previous owner 10/19 and before did.

I still have not heard from the B&C measurer, I will put another call in. It seems you have a good idea on this scoring thing, do you think he will make the book at all (if he is not already in it)? BTW IMO net 's are for fish, he should get credit for all he grew

Yeah it is not a good idea to put your kids up on e-bay. You get like all investigated and stuff. It sucks!

Great buck - nice find!

About a year ago my dad was in an antique store and grabbed a big mulie for $125...just the rack... Had it "officially" measured and it went 193 net typ... he then turned it on Ebay for $1300....

You scored! I would have kept the rack...but honestly...my paps needed the money...so you do what ya gotta do.

That buck is a true monster!

Really would like to see an official score for this buck!!

Pic's are great but can be deceiving. He looks to be a true monster but without an actual tape and score sheet on him, all we can do is guess.

Joey

That buck is close to 240, low book non-typical. Either way if you don't want it, I would think it should sell for around 1200 to an antler collector. Up to 2500 if it makes low book.

I received a call back from the B&C scorer and he is doing some research to see if it is in the book, He said he is not allowed to measure it if it has already been scored and made the book. I expect to have it scored if it is not in the book this week, I will keep you posted..

That is a big muley... I showed my dad the pictures and he use to be an official scorer and he thinks the typical frame is probably around 215-220 and about 25-30 inches of extra's. So all together 240-250. Nice buck!!!!

That deer is worth more like 5000-8000.. I bought one from an old man that scored 264 and had three guys offer me over 10 for it.
