My buck had warts

So here is my story. It was around six o' clock Sunday night. Last day I could hunt. Was sitting on a good look out point when I saw seven doe's come out. Watched them for a minute when I noticed a good little three point come out after they did. Than a small two point.

I decided I was going after the three point when I noticed a Really small two point walk out into the sage brush flat. He wasn't moving to fast and looked to have a limp to his walk.

I was able to close the distance to about 350 yards. Decided to take another look at the limping two point. I couldn see any signs of being shot or blood but decided to shoot him. I was thinking maybe he was shot earlier in the hunt and managed to get away. So I ranged him at 347 yards.

Put the crosshairs on the top of his back and bang down he went. I was excited thought I feeled the freezer with some meat this year. By the time I found him it was close to dark. I pulled out my mag light and was looking for signs of injury. I didn't find any but what I did find was nasty.

This buck had open sores that smelt horrible all over the inside of his legs. Sores on his head and back, all over his nose and mouth. Even some on his nut sac (noticed them while gutting him).

I tagged him and loaded him up and off to home I went. I knew something was wrong with this deer and I was concerned If he was consumable. Monday morning called fish and game told them what I had discovered. By three thirty two fish cops and a biologist came to look at the deer. Turns out he had herpes. Wish I would have worn gloves with this one.

Fish and game ended taking him from me and writing me out a new tag. I was just curios has anyone else had this happen to them.
If I knew how to post pics I would put them on here.

Some cattle rancher probably roped him and gave him the herp! Lmfao! Where was this deer harvested so I know not to hunt there?

That is a crazy story. Reminds of the time that I went hunting with Bobcatbess...I'll have to finish telling the story later. There are two fish cops and a biologist at my door who want to know about the time I went hunting with Bobcatbess.

Probably some hussy doe that likes to hang out on the corner of the field, asking for acorns in trade for her favors. Young bucks are especially suceptable to her charms, often traveling many miles and spending rent acorns to play piggy back only to find out too late that they are infected forever. Glad i'm not a young buck anymore!

Deer w/ herpies, that's a new one!

Lol

Hat's off to you for filling the tag on the smaller buck because you thought it was injured! Hats off to game and fish as well, in issuing you a new tag.

There are several variations of herpes in addition to genital, and the common cold sore variety. His immune system must've gotten compromised and the virus took hold but good.

Uhhh.. I don't know if that is something to be bragging about!

Gross! Glad they wrote you another tag.

Nice of them to write you another tag. They could've been jerks and told you tough luck. Were you able to keep the antlers from the buck or did they confiscate those?

I hate when that happens... Had to get antibiotic shots and it took weeks to go away..

The buck I took was over around Newcastle resivoir. He didnt look near as bad as that witetail buck or even close to it. That thing is nasty. But the sores were similiar. I was really suprised when Chris the fish cop asked if he could see the other half of my tag. So he could right me out a new tag. I figured I was going to eat imaginary tag soup seeing how I no longer had a tag or a deer. Now I get to enjoy eating my tag soup. I didnt ask to keep the antlers, his horns were small and I would have just gave them to my lab to chew on. But not this deers horns I dont need her getting what he had. Thanks for the comments, and best of luck to all you hunters who still have tags to fill.
