this weekend is my last chance to tag a buck on a cwmu im hunting. iwas wondering what you guys thought about the rut starting. will bucks be checking out the does this early. what is the general pattern for bucks at the start of nov? i have seen some good deer on the unit but havent been able to locate a shooter while hunting. i'm willing to eat tag soup if the right buck doesnt show himsef.

As of last weekend on the front, the bucks necks are getting swollen, but they are not pushing does quite yet. I would hunt all day, they may be "cruzin" mid day anytime.

thanx for the advice. im hoping that the cold front this weekend helps. im hunting 100 miles north of slc between 6000 & 7800 elevation

Ive hunted a northern cwmu twice in the last 4 years. hunting was tough at the first of the hunt only seeing a few bucks a day. Then around the 28th it seems the bucks come out and i saw alot more and bigger bucks. the bucks will be checking doe's but the bigger ones wont hang on them like the younger ones! i shot my bucks on nov. 4 and nov 9 and they were in a ruttin craze! that is how my hunts went. it could and might be different especially this year! good luck and kill a monster!

I was hunting elk on a N. Utah CWMU last night. I saw about 25 does without a buck. This is the first year I have been on this CWMU, so I don't know if it is not holding big bucks, or if they haven't started looking for does yet. Good luck!
