First of all, I'm not asking for honey holes. I'm looking for a unit in Wyoming to take my 12 year old daughter(soon to be 13)that has good odds (she has 1 point) and a descent deer population to look at. I won't be hunting, just her. She is not looking for a monster, just a chance at harvesting her first buck.

Go to the G&Fish website and look up the draw odds. Should be able to draw region K w/1, lots of deer but lots of hunters, but if you are patient and can hunt the whole season should be able to get on a buck. There is also a HMA that you have to draw for that would have fewer hunters. Also look at Limited Quoata areas, 118 and 119, have bucks in HMA that have less hunters but haven't looked at NR odds lately. good luck, hope others will give you help also.

Try the 109 limited entry tag next year. Its a 15 day season with plenty of public land, good access, good camp spots or motels in Cody and plenty of bucks - whitetail and mule deer.

Thanks guys. Much appreciated. I did get a couple of PM's from guys and those are greatly appreciated too. I just needed a couple of areas to look at. If there's any information I can give you in Utah let me know. I would like to return the favor.

I just came back from 109 and it's not a very good unit. Region 109 and K have something in commom. The hunting on the private is good and the hunting on publis is not. I would go with region W or 102.

I know Justin is great hunter but this area will get better and all bet he did not hunt late as season is still in progress. This is the first year for limited quota hunting from Nov1st-Nov15th. This will make a huge difference for next year. No more 2x2's killed as they migrate out of the high country. A buck that was killed last year scored about 240 NT - cody school teacher I think?. This area has potential now!! There will be plenty of three year old 4x4's next year with 22-24" spreads.

Alot of talk of 109 which is in Region F. Region F if you get off the roads has some good oppurtunities for your daughter to tag a buck. General tag and Nov 1st to the 10th. Hunter numbers have dropped over the years. We tag out every year on public ground as well as HMA and walk-ins. Ill PM you with pics of the bucks we have taken over an 8 year run in region F.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-13-08 AT 00:38AM (MST)[p]I was in 109 Nov 7th. I know that giant buck was killed in the unilt last year. The unit is great country but it would be my last choice for a youth hunter. My honest opinion of the unit in the small time I was there is it sucks, but it could be great some day..

I will post pictures of the deer I kill next year in this area. Yep, I have confidence I will draw a tag - since 1976 I have learned something about the area and how the bucks migrate, rut and feed. Picking up sheds is also a great way to determine what lives in an area - pictures are good also. In my opinion this year has been unusaully warm with little snow. Justin my thoughts are that the last 7 days of the season would be much better than the first 8. Did you use horses while you were here?? I would have liked to have shared info on areas to look for bucks with you and I look forward to someday hunting elk in Utah as I have 14 bonus points.

I really do appreciate the information and the PM's. It's nice to have the extra help when you are trying to involve your kids. If it was just me I would go try anywhere and if I failed I failed. But, you want your kids to have a good experience. I have had my daughters read all the pm's and posts and we are looking at maps now and trying to make a game plan for next spring's application period. Thanks again. You guys are great!!
