Hello,

Looking for some support on the 2009 hunt. I am an out of state hunter that will be hunting in Utah next year and have been told that the deer in the high Uintah's are plentiful if you are willing to get in to the area and hike your butt off. A friend of mine has told me of an area that is about a 10 mile hike north from Moon Lake. Has anyone been near or around this location to vouge for this information? Thanks

THE ONLY bobcat THAT KNOWS ALOT OF YOU HAVE HAD THIS IMAGE IN YOUR PEA BRAIN BUT DUE TO POOR SHOOTING TACTICS I'M STILL KICKIN!!!

It can be a good area however, if you are not familiar with the area it can be brutal! Extremely easy to get lost back in that country if you don't have a good GPS and maps (and know how to use them). I don't know if I would say that the deer are "plentiful" but I think that the deer that are there don't get the pressure that the lower, more accessible, country gets. I would do a lot of homework and maybe take a day trip into some of the areas prior to hunting season. The weather during the deer hunt can make some of the hurricanes and tornados back east seam like a mild thunder storm. You can easily get a foot or two of snow during that time of year. I do know that there is a pretty good herd of elk that like to hang out in or near that area too. I hope this helps.

It's always an adventure!!!

+1 for bobcat.. you can probably find a better place to go. They had a really hard winter and need to recover. the next couple years dont look so good for the northeast region.

Every post so far has been good and accurate. There will always be some good deer in there, but the numbers are definately down. Additionally in the high uintas a lot of the deer start migrating a little earlier than average, especially if a good cold front moves in with snow in early october. Some bucks stick around but it makes it that much harder. The country is all high elevation, most of it above 10,000 ft and rough, so make sure you are in shape and prepared for anything. I would pack in a few times in the summer prior to going in for the hunt so you know what to expect and know the area. Keep us all posted.

+2 to what Bessy said. We had a horrible winter and i didnt even see half the deer that i did last year on the hunt.

no bs from the replies. its very remote. very steep, very unforgiving!!! 1 of my favorite places to hunt. and the mightmare buck that will haunt my dreams forever was missed there. 10 yrs ago seeing big bucks was not uncommon everyday. for the last few yrs very slim.
