I would like your thoughts and opinions between these two stores
(sportsmans warehouse or cabelas). If these two stores were adjacant too each other and you had the opportunity to shop the two stores, what would be your first choice to shop and why? Either way if it,s because of the animal displays, there product, hospitality, or what?
Give your opinions guys and maybe girls.

I'd shop both stores for whatever I was looking for and buy the best product for the money no matter which store it was...especially if they're both right there next to each other!!

Sportsmans. Prices and Poeple. Although the Sportsmans I usually went to in Phoenix is now closed down sooooo.....

If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

Both but if was looking for prices and service, that'd be sportsmans, if I was just waisting a couple hours window shopping and dreaming, cabelas.
Both are great stores, just wish sportsmans didn't have to close down some of their stores, I'd like to see them get big enough to lower the prices in cabelas and bass pro shops.

I was a Sportsman's fan untile lately...they can't keep the good stuff in stock...I heard it's because they haven't been paying their bills...so I would have to say Cabela's...they seem to keep the shelves stocked...plus you can order on line.

Cabelas for me,
There are no Sportsmans in my area. I have to do most of my shopping and purchasing online. With my Cabelas Visa at least I get cash points to burn later!

Sportsmans. Employees seem to be on it a little more and some of the product I like the local cabelas does not carry or is out of stock. If I have my boys (4 and 2 year olds) with me though its cabelas. You can't beat the displays and the fish.

Here in Vegas they've opened a Sportsmans in Henderson and they're opening another one on the NW side of town in a couple of weeks. Seems all the guys that new anything about hunting that worked over at Bass Pro are now working at Sportsman's. I like the fact that Sportman's seems to have just the items pertaining to hunting and fishing that i'd go to one of the big chains for anyway... my .2

Cabelas for me by a long shot. I might pay a little more but their return policy is unbeatable. No questions asked, "go get you a new one." Sportmans fights me on every return with or without a receipt. If it doesn't perform the way I think it should, it's going back where it came from. I'll pay a little extra to someone who understands that.

2 Sportsmans in the Vegas Valley!! How did that happen right under my nose without me knowing about it? I am going to have to check it out this weekend.

Cabela's for me! Great return policy, good staff, and they generally have some kind of sale/promotion going on. Seems like Sportsman's never has what I need in stock and their staff are always too busy BS'ing with each other to help customers.

There are alot of excellent thoughts and opinions that have been replyed back about this topic. My opinion, it really is a catch 22. In my experience,s there really are pros and cons for each store.Me living in ST George UT the closest Cabelas is 300 mi. away so I generally do all my shopping at the local sportsmans ware house store. But every 2 to 4 weeks I,ll pay a visit to my family members in salt lake city and will shop the cabela,s store
simultaneously taking my kids. Cabelas animal displays are unbeatable and my kids are just in awe every time we go there.
And alot of you are right, cabelas return policy is unmatched, very leinent. But at the sportsmans ware house store here in ST George, there employees really do a fine job assisting with there customers.
But due to product availability, return policy and the ambiance of cabelas I am all for Cabelas.

I've only ran into a couple employees at our local Sportsmans who were at all helpful. Most of the time I get the feeling that they are either understaffed or simply not all that interested in their job.

Both... If one does not carry what I am looking for I sure hope the other does!

Cabelas....I work in the tile industry and Cabelas puts my tile in all their stores. As you can see Sportsmans puts little or no tile in any of thier stores. Maybe to cut costs, but the prices are pretty much the same.....call me bias but I support those financaily who support me.

Sportsman's - call me biased too. I worked at the one here in the Austin area - twice!

Good prices, good people.

The Cabelas near Austin is the messiest place I have been in. Fun place to take the kids to see the mounts and fish and the shooting gallery. But is is more of an attraction to me than a place to shop. Also overheard one of the salespeople there tell a lady that it would be all right for her to shoot +P ammo in her plain old .38 Special. Luckily she said, "Uhh I thought it had to be a .38 +P pistol to shoot the +P ammo?" Dude was pretty embarrassed and confused.

Cabela's rules the universe..............I just bought a full snow cammo set up and my ass never left this computer chair............bliss.

SPORTSMANS FOR SURE, CABELAS IS TOO BIG. THE ONE TIME I WENT TO CABELAS FOR SOMETHING SPECIFIC, THEY DIDN'T HAVE WHAT I WANTED,(MAX-1 SET-UP), SPORTSMAN'S HAD IT & IT WAS CHEAPER. I COMPARED THE SAME BRAND STUFF JUST IN DIFFERENT PATTERN.

I only have a Sportsmans here in Grand Junction. It has been my experience that most of the employee's aren't very bright or receptive or care very much. It has been a negative experience for me on many occasions. (Except for the guys in the fly fishing dept, they have been great).

I have never had worse customer service than at the Sportsman's warehouse in Ogden. The last few times I have been there they were out of every product that I was after, mainly bullets, powder, etc. I used to love going there but avoid it now and order on-line from Cabela's. Cabela's is usually more money but they back the product above and beyond what I think they need to do and I can get it shipped right to me at work. I wish Sportsman's had internet access and I would maybe buy from them more but doubt it. Cabela's is a monster and getting bigger and more diversified each and every day.

CABELAS ALL THE WAY. I worked at Sportsmans and they treat their employees like work horses. Small pay for big hours. Alot goes on behind the curtans at Sportsmans Warehouse. Customer service is piss poor as well. If your a hard worker that takes great pride in your job, you will most likely not last at Sportsmans for too long unless you have one hell of a manager in your department, they will run you into the ground because they know you will work hard and they'll take advantage of it.
Their return policy sucks too. 30 days. Cabelas is lifetime. If it stops working or breaks, Cabelas will take it back. No questions asked, better selection too. My .02 cents. Hope this didn't offend anyone.

I look for Cabelas items on EBAY. There is neither a Cabelas or Sportsmans near where i live, i live in a small town, and i can usually get my wanted item for less than what i would pay in the store.

There is usually a very large selection of Cabeles items listed. No, you're not going to find what you want every time you look and sometimes never but it's on my favorites list and i don't mind shopping for a good deal!

Happy hunting!

I really like both stores here in Utah. Sandy sportsmans/Point of the mountain Cabelas location wise. Cabelas has the greatest returns policy that most big retail stores should learn from. I do shop at both stores for certain items. The one thing that stands out for me though with Cabelas is their customer service. Yes they might not know as much as the veteran hunter, but they try & will find out for you in some manner what you need. And they do help...I have a handicap Grandpa that I take care of & the first time we went to cabelas when it opened I pulled up & let him out in his wheel chair soon as I was done here comes a young girl to role him in & take him were ever he wanted to start shopping while I parked the Van. Every time we have gone their we have had nothing, but great help & customer service. And the best part they do it with a smile on their face & not like their bored & doing us a favor. Not to slander, but sportsmans never even gave us a time of day. To bad because my grandpa buys all his christmas/birthday gifts now from cabelas & he doesn't skimp when it comes to the dollar$$$$$$$$$$$$$, but do hope they both succeed & also the MOM & POP STORES. Sorry to go on just my experience. My pick is CABELAS.

I sure want to say Sportsmans, but Cabelas has been way too good to me. Sportsmans has a pretty great selection for my needs and the prices are good. Lots of store closings concerns me, but I hope they make it. Staff is hit or miss at either. Cabelas customer service and return policy is amazing - hard to find such these days. Cabelas sales sure can be value. I put Bass Pro a distant third... and #####'s...well, nevermind.

I live at the South end of SLC valley, 15 miles from Sportsmans, and 15 miles from Cabelas. Ive been to Sportsmans twice in the last two years, and Cabelas about 15 times.

I guess it just depends on my mood, who I am with, and what I need and most of the time those things take me to Cabelas.

I will say this though, if I pass sportsmans with the kids, they don't notice. If I pass Cabelas with the kids, they want to stop!
